I just picked up a 07 F5 LXR with 1200 miles for my wife and have noticed that is smokes a lot when it idles. I am wondering if it is a common thing on these sleds and why it might be doing it. I had the sled looked over by a local shop when it was in for a bad fuel sensor and they said everything looks good. Any idea?
Thanks

you have to let it warm up. a lot of sleds do this, by the way you made it sound, you just bought it, both mine and my dads sleds i noticed smoked a lot more than what i was used to. once they were warmed up, they were fine. just a common site with 2 strokes.

Thanks for the info. I know how 2 strokes work and I have been riding sleds for the last 25 years. My MXZ 700 does smoke a bunch when it is warming up but nothing like this F5. I am just wondering if Cats smoke more then others or if the F5 is known for smoking more then others.
Thanks

IMO...YES cats are FAT, always have been. I have never burned 1 of mine down. My 07 F6 is " pig fat " that is the best I can describe it. My Thunderbomb from 94 was so fat I leaned down the oil pump, ran mineral oil and ran a 1 step hotter plug. Then every cat inbetween was fat too..... There are some cleaner burning oils out there , I thought the AC stuff was terrible way back when. You should be OK, should get about 120-140 before the light comes on and about 170 till the bottom of the res. Good thing my wife is skinny... ( sort of ) LOL . Glad she doesn't read JD.

run it and check oil usage I turned my 700 1 full turn and she is still a bit rich on oil some guys have to do like 3 turns on the oil pump lever to get to the corect ratio but dont do it all at once.
