Add 3 to 4 more inches of snow to what we already have...snowed lightly all night last night...we are now over 60 inches for the month of February...over 100 inches for the entire area this season (with some areas approaching 110 inches)..I realize some of my yooper buddies are laughing at this...but its alot of snow for this area, nearly 40 inches over our seasonal average. It will go down as a record year for us...so get out and enjoy it...these are the best conditions we have had in years!!! This might be the first time in many years that the trails stay open the entire season...right now you can almost ride the entire state of Wisconsin from border to border.
The clubs are out and working..but its alot of snow, so be patient...stay close to the markets on the lakes, unless you have a mountain sled as it is very deep out there...low powered, low lug sleds will have issues. (Experienced riders will be fine)...also snow banks are high...so be careful crossing roads, motorists cant see you....watch for some slush on some area lakes, as the heavy wet snow is causing some slush...plenty of ice out there..just alot of snow.
The riding is excellent right now...so get up here, and have some fun..but be safe, and keep in mind if you trailer up here that, some of the back roads, and county highways arent very good...even sections of hwys 51, 8, 17, 47 and 70 are icy in spots...so SLOW DOWN...this snow ain't going anywhere for awhile.

180 miles today, home at 5, rhinelander to sugar camp for breakfast, then lake tomahawk, minoqua, down to tomahawk over to lake alice back up 17 to 12 east back to rhinelander, many many miles first one down groomed trails! Or groomed last night and all powder, Sweet. Very deep off trail, be careful of all the deer on trail, saw well over 100 today and they dont want to get off trail, when they do they struggle in the deep snow. Trails are awesome. 3 more days.

I will there Friday. I look forward to all the snow, but I am getting tired of shoveling snow off the roof.

Attak Man: What are some cheap hotels with trail access? I just got home from Mercer Monday, but if trails hold up may come to Tomahawk soon. Cuts a lot of time off my drive to be able to go there, coming from the south

The super 8, and Anericinn, are both on the trail...as is the center stone resort (the old best western)...twin bay has cabins, as does dan and mels

dude, you got some expensive hotels. Called Super 8. Over $100 per night. Only Americinn I could find was Rhinelander. I was looking for cheap. Don't want to go any further north than I have to so may just have to shut it down for the year

That's why we built the BRAAAPP SHACK. Haven't paid for lodging in 5-6 years.
Plus we don't have to worry about planning ahead to make reservations, or lose deposits if needing to cancel. If we find snow or grooming not good, we just keep driving till its good

Motel Nokomis is back open for the rest of the year. There rates are what you are looking for.

Yes you can try roadway in, or 4 seasons (it's not directly on trail)...I did not mention motel nokomis, because I was unsure of their status (they had been closed)...room rates are higher, because we have snow...sorry but the demand is high, and people will pay that rate right now...most of the 30 dollar a night drives are no longer in business...snowmobiling is not a cheap sport.

There was a state hockey tournament in Tomahawk this weekend. Motel Nokomis has the hardest beds you'll ever sleep in, close to as bad as the "Bridge Inn" but they are closed in the winter anyway. The old Wild North is now "The Garage" which may be the worst name ever. It's a good place but not much trailer parking.

Motel Nokomis and Four Seasons are NOT members of any snowmobile clubs!! Please support those that support our sport!!
Feel free to visit Northwoods Passage Snowmobile clubs website to find a list of members that DO support us.

Thanks. Still trying to decide about coming the 14th. Weather still looks good. Will be alone so worry there will not be much traffic if I need help for a break down

In that case I would just ride the main trails up towards Minocqua and maybe over towards Rhinelander.and north. We rode south and west a little last weekend and even with ideal conditions we didn't see many other sleds at all. There's a trail 19 from Tripoli to Merrill and there's basically not a bar, gas station, or a house for 40 miles, I think.

If I come up, I would probably stick to most of main trails. Have a 2018 Doo 850 so odds of breaking down are smaller than an older sled. Weird how March is sometimes the best riding but people are mostly done, even though a lot complain about low snow conditions for a few years. Next Thursday looks wet and warmer, but can't imagine things would be bad after that
