any problems with these sleds, a friend is considering one. I though I remember them blowing up, bad fuel mapping? Or am I thinking of a different sled ?

A buddy of mine is looking to sell a 2009 600 with 136 track 1800 miles let me know if interested.

I have a buddy with one. His has been perfectly fine. Yes, there was a recall on the pistons, and yes, they had mapping issues. But those have all been addressed and Polaris fixed them. I'd stay away from the competition track. It just digs like crazy in powder. My buddy put on a regular 2.4 mountain track on it now.

Yeah, I think if the updates and recalls have been done, he should be fine. You don't really hear too many issues if those items are taken care of.

I own a 2009 assault and have done extensive research on them. You guys are right about the fuel mapping, it is very lean around that 5200 rpm mark. This problem hasnt been fixed despite the many reflashes polaris has released. I can still trip the det sensor on mine with all the updates and put it in limp mode. This year I bought a power commander for it but havent got to ride it yet so time will tell. Although this is a PIA, very few of these sleds went down because of a lean melt down. The problem with the polaris 800 from 07' - current lays in the piston side clearance. These motors fail, thats a fact. They have extremely sloppy pistons in them to help from cold seizures but it creates another problem. If not given proper warm up you will without a doubt scuff the cylinders, and the short rods put a ton of stress on the piston skirts. 90% of the polaris 800's that failed, failed either from broken piston skirts or cylinder scuffing. Polaris released a recall to put new pistons and a new head on these things. They did away with the single ring piston, and put on a lower compression head. The dual ring piston is suppose to help with the piston rocking in the cylinder. Obviously scuffing is far less severe than a piece of the skirt taking out the bottom half of the motor as well. With all that said I would not be afraid to buy another one. Let it warm up to 100 degrees minimum before EVER touching the throttle. Are these things FIXED with the updates? Absolutely not! I for one will be putting new pistons in mine at the end of this year with only around 1000 miles on the updated piston and head. There are also many options out there to make these motors reliable. Rk Tek, PMS polaris, and a few others have drop in piston and head kits that really work. Do your research and decide for yourself if its worth it to you. There is a lot of good info on Snowest.com. I wouldnt recomend one to someone who doesnt know their way around a 2-stroke. Just doing a simple top end can keep these things ticking, but if your looking for a pull and go, I'd say look at a Cat. Hope this helps.

I want to add to make sure it has the updated voltage regulator for the originals were junk and when they fail a lot of times they take the ECU with them. The updated part number is 4012930. If it has part number 4012476 then it is the original and should be switched out or plan on carrying one with you cause its only a matter of time before it goes.

I think I'd keep your current sled before going to this one, but that's JMO

I don't know about the 2010's but, the 2009 800's were the big issue at the time. Mine has had all the updates and new CPU and runs great (knock on wood). I thought they "fixed" alot of the issues for 2010.

I'm with Dave- I thought the 2009 was the 'bad' year. That was the year everyone was complaining about meltdowns and there were recalls and whatnot anyway. That being said- even with that knowledge, I bought an -09 800 dragon. I love it. I've been beating it up for 3 yrs- it has right around 3K miles on it- and runs like a champ. Everyone will have an example of someone they know with a problem with every sled out there. Good luck!
