Was just wondering if anyone has riden the new apex. Just want input on how this new electric powersteering works. My wife had rotator cuff surgury and was just tring to see if this would be easier on her shoulder for next year. Any input would be great. We have never riden anything other than cats, so this would be a big change. Thanks.

I would not put your wife on this sled. It have major power and would most likely hurt her shoulder from holding on when she hits the gas. The EPS is good when you are riding in the twisties. I would look at a 600 Etec or a 2010 or 2011 FI Vector GT LTX. Those are lighter better trail riding sleds.

The Apex is a speed machine that is heavy.

goneaway, have you tryed the newer twinspar cats? They steer real easy, kind of like power steering and the bars are adjustable. My wife had pain issues until we got the new twinspar sleds.

have not been on the twinspar sleds yet. was looking at the z1 just worried at lower speeds she wont be able to turn it until she builds the strength back up. probly next winter.

as far as the speed of the sled not a bit concerned with that, she love to steal my zrt600 ever so often. we ride in the machickanee forest in oconto county and that is nothing but twisties so speed not an issue.

Worth while visit to Pat's Greenland ,MI & test ride Apex SE, XTX & Vector then you know for sure. I'm thinking she will like EPS on twistys as speed increases the EPS drops off. Flipper very easy on the thumb. EPS will broaden market for Apex & lots of gals getting into EPS.....sure lots of Apex HP 162ish & EPS 2012 Vector Hp 130ish going to be very popular if Yam does it. If you like Apex with EPS Vector should be even better.

I put 335 on mine last weekend. I think the EPS was great. I would get sore arms after a 200 mile day when I had my 06 Apex Gt and that is no longer a issue. Also I will say it rips compared to my 06. I don't think you will be disappionted.

I would not be a bit surprised if Yami put EPS on some Vectors for 2012.

I can say that I was amazed at the difference in the steering between my ZRT600 and my F6 - definitely turns easier than any sled I've been on, although I haven't been on a Yami yet.

Thanks for all the input. I've got a year to decide what to do as she can't ride this year anyway. Will probly have to go somewhere she can test ride one next winter before we decide.

I just rode one tonight for about 35 miles and it is an incredible machine. The steering is so easy but I must say the power is even more crazy. Throttle response is dead on, steering is dead on. I was cruising down the grade 13 from Greenland to Twin Lakes at 75 mph and smashed the flipper down and the response is still very impressive. I could steer it with 1 hand easily if I had to. It's a fantastic machine, shortly after riding the 11 apex I rode a 10 vector and noticed the difference even with light steering on the vec. I'm sitting here typing and still in awe with the machine, it's one bad machine!!!!!!!

Don't even start with the weight of these Yammi because it is a non-issue with all the grunt and ease of steering. If someone was to say these 4 stroke don't have the snap than they are dreaming, they flat out rip

there is some truth to holding on to a machine like this, the bottom end is unreal and lunges easily, super responsive sled

lenny,

Would you pay $15k for it? Seems pretty spendy.

hmmm had to giggle:: apex big hot rod sled loads of power 87 oct gas,, 4 stroke 16-18 mpg verses a cat 600 witch isnt to bad on fuel 91 oct with adding oil in resavore .. Buy a bunch of rools of duck tape to keep the wife ontop of the apex !!! she will be waiting at least 10 min for you to catch up with her !!! You will end up buying one for your self after you clean your shorts out from riding it !! It isnt nothing like a 600 twinn .. and the ride is like riding on a cloud !! smmoooth !!anyways good luck with what ever you get for her im shure she will love it !!

well,,,,,if you compare it to the cadi sleds of the other manu's it's probably in comparison. I cannot afford a new sled period, that's why I am riding a 2000 mtn max that was blown up when I got it. If I were to be a trail rider again and were in the market for a sled this would be it.

12,500 seems a lot better.

Mark, have you had a chance to try one?

Have you compared the wieght of an Apex vs. a Vector? Not much different!

The suggested retail for all of the top of the line sleds is usually 2-4 thou higher than most folks pay. It has been this way for years. This season there were quite a few places that were selling Apex XTX's for $12500 with the extended warranty. This is not to say that they are 'cheap'. While the 2011 Apex looks a lot like the 2006 original Apex it is full of many little refinements as well as the power steering and increased HP. It is not for everybody - there is no arguing about whether it is heavy because it is. For many this is a non issue. The Apex is for wide smooth groomed trails. If you want to go boondocking or ditch banging look for something else.

Just Curious...

...What type of 'top end' does the Apex pack? My sled is nothing like this one but I'm just curious...

I have both machines and yes there is a difference. The vector motor sits lower and thus handles the twisties better than the apex which is a heavy sled. The EPS helps out but you still have the weight. Like Lenny said you can't help but crack a smile when you squeeze the flipper and you are instantly flying down the trail. I just don't think it would be a good sled for somebody with a shoulder issue. I would go 2010 or 2011 Vector all day. My wife loved the sled. I really like the sled. No, the Apex XTX is not $4,000 better than the Vector with FI but boys with there toys.
