2013 800 Switchback Pro-R - Recommended Accessories?

My new ride is just waiting for the snow to fly. Curious what others recommend for must-have accessories. I see the 12V outlet - need that for my heated helmet shield. Might add some knee pads - can't hurt. Not overly thrilled about the storage options. Might even consider switching to a backpack.

Thanks in advance for your inputs.

I'd add the rear storage rack like on an Adventure and was available in 2014 from the factory, I think it finishes off the back end better, plus it will take care of your storage issue.

maximumpsi,

The Pro-Ride Underseat Bag doesn't appear to fit the 2013 Switchback Pro R. Which sled do you have and which specific bag did you buy?

I have a 2012 SB 800 Pro R. Here is what I added before last season...
Skinz 2-piece bags (cover ugly backend and work well for storage), ROX adjustable risers (stock not high enough for standing IMO), 12v plug-in (to plug-in GPS with trail maps), Sno-stuff low/mid windshield (low too low), Polaris handguards (helps block cold since I wear thin gloves), Polaris riser bag (store phone & other stuff), front bumper to protect cooling fins, USI X2 ski's with 6" Studboy Shapers, I think that about covers it.

The bag is actually called the 600 Rush underseat bag Mfg #: 2877797. Fits on my 2012 Switchback. I sprayed it with waterproofing spray before installation and my tools stayed dry.

I also added the Rox 4-6" adjustable riser like jedoyle suggested. Make sure you get the quick adjust on the fly option (no wrenches needed).

How do you like the rox adjustable risers? How far do they go up and down? Thanks.

I believe my range from 4 - 6". I like them. To be honest I really don't adjust them although I can in seconds without tools. I leave them pretty much fully extended all the time. Works fine for sit down riding and works well for standing up. They look nice. Polaris riser bag fits over top of them really nice for additional storage. Jim

Looks like the Pro-Steer Ski is new in 2013 . . .

Pro-Steer Ski

The new Pro-Steer™ Ski features a reshaped keel and shortened skag for reduced steering effort. Redesigned ribs atop the ski increase torsional stiffness for more precise steering, and bosses added atop the ribs provide traction to prevent slipping when a rider steps on the ski in deep snow.

dont need duals on pro steer, my dad rides high miles and last year ran the stock 4" until they were worn down and said it handled amazing and zero darting (yes with single 4") so i put single 6" on it just for a little more bite and he loves it still. save the money on duals of you have pro steers

i have a 13 switch as well. zero darting but not to impressed with the grip on loose trails. i dont think the keel is deep enough. pushs bad on loose packed trails. . excellent on hard packed trails tho

Yep, we were in th UP late March when trails were solid in the am but turned to musch in the afternoon when temps rose to 40+. Both my switchbacks jumped around alot in the soft conditions. Had a buddy with his Pro R with dual runners that drove like it was on rails. I'm putting dual runners on this year.

Well, after much thought, I think I'm going to go with . . .

Dust Cover
Heated Shield Outlet (mounts to riser cover)
Knee Pads
Skid Plate (Red)
Front Bumper (Black)
Cargo Rack (Black)
Rear Rack Bag
Possibly a Mountain Bar/Loop

What about scratchers? Is this suspension and track more likely to need scratchers or less likely? I often thought about putting them on my '08 Switchback but never pulled the trigger.

And POLARISDAN, any issue's, because I read the thread also. Bought a 800 Adventure in May and was having hard time understanding truth or friction in some of the threads.

TRUTH..

my 800 2012 pro r- 3 majors 1st year..#1 clutch walked into the motor(heat weld failure), #2 crank shaft sheared off, #3 total meltdown...
bogged from day 1 at 65,75,85 and capped low 90's..supposed to go 108..they never figured out what was wrong up to the meltdown

my dealer decided to rebuilt it from the ground up instead of buying a factory built block not trusting this motor, glad I bought the extended(this is the accessory u need on these) and Polaris and them fought who was gonna pay cuz it happened within 10 days of the factory expiration..got it back with enuf time for a breakin and ride one day...no bog and pushed into the low 100's-didnt want to push it...so the jury is still out till this year(over $12000 in repairs for all 3)

800 switch pro r 2013--when my 2012 went down with the crank towed it in turned around and headed back out and halfway across the lake the thing wouldn't go, 300 miles at this point on it, running-no power and wouldn't shut off..towed this bastage in running(swearing off Polaris for life at this point) and the resort owner who rents Polaris's was gonna shut it down from the brain box(main computer) and sure enuf, the connector wasn't snapped on-just hanging there(from factory) and then it ran properly and shut down-(so check your connection make sure its snapped)--then ran 2400 trouble free miles and shut it down-didn't want to chance any more(pretty sad)

so as I said buy the extended warranty on these 800's, most likely u will need it
