Xp and Xs are the same sled just different plastic and r motion verses sc5. Doo hasn't changed the xp chassis since 08, just lots of tweaks. It's coming either in 2015 or 2016 i bet.
Yamaha will have a new mountain sled, Cat chassis, 2-stroke power. And perhaps another 2-stroke also. They need market share.
After Kipp's survey questions, and Yamaha pulling his ear, leads me to believe they looking to get more market share. I think the Viper will take the Nitro out of production, and will gain some market. But by reading the views posted on Kipps thread, I'm sure Yamaha has listened also. 2-strokes still going to be a big share of snowmobiz. Eating a little crow to increase market share, you tell me. I think the $$ will prevail.
You might be able to smooth out the engagement and shift by playing with the secondary on the phazer. I had an Apex that I played with the clutching a bit and changed the secondary spring to a "looser" setting and also experimented with a softer spring as well. I found one of the settings to make it act quite smooth and a little tamer and it was a totally different sled,I have two Phazers and I'm not a big fan of the engine. Yes, it pulls hard but it is also...touchy. I would like to see them drop the Phazer motor for something smoother for the wife and kids. The wife won't ride the Phazer because it jerks her head when she is on and off the gas; and the kids have a hard time controlling the motor in tight areas like unloading/loading and gas stations. They need to shrink the Vector motor down to sub 600cc.

Yam needs snowmobile engines built for sleds. Was on trip in Canada with both Phazer and Appex, and the 3cyl engines far better for sledding than those two. Even the 1049 would be much better for sleds if exhaust and intake were reversed front to back. Not bashing Yam, but they can do better, and will have to. They will get there, I'm sure of that. Yam should gain strength from Cat's sled engineering also.
WTH you talkin about, mr lincoln....Yamaha produced the VERY FIRST "built for snow" 4 stroke engines.
First was the carbed 973 cc and then the 1049cc...BOTH UNMATCHED for reliability.
ski doo's "bought" rotex big block (1200 cc), was a low HP COPY....LOL
Lot of rumors from all the big 4 for 2015. Seems everyone is thinking turbo from Doo. 900 Ace turbo? 600 etec turbo? 800 etec turbo? 1200 turbo? 1330 ace turbo mach Z? Cant wait to find out. Whatever it is I am spring ordering.
Too many conflicts with other hp 4s hp power to turbo every motor ....never happen & can only be 1 Mach Z. Now if doo turboed an 800 etec that would be something! I would never buy 1 but doo sure would have mongo balls to turbo any etec 2s engine. Can you say Warranty COSTS!!! LOL![]()
are u sure he has not had the crank pinned and welded and poss new rods .- - - Updated - - -
Guy in our group has a 350+ hp turbo in his 1200(trail sled) with at least couple thousnad miles and they claimed it will handle it no problem, which is why he did it. Not sure who gave u the info. Plus a factory turbo would be a lot more docile than the one on his, prolly around the 200hp range. My guess is doo is going to comeout with some kind of lightweight 4-stroke. Just a guess.

most guys I know building drag/ trail sleds pushing that kind of power the 325 to 400 range have had the bottom end apart and dropped a minimum of $600 in the bottom end to keep them in 1 piece .
and those that have not deff do the next time.
I did get to ride a buds fresh 350+ cat down the track a few weeks ago deff exhilarating took me 2 runs before I gave it all she had .I think they need to weigh that 700lbs in race trim just to keep them from taking off
