My favorite Pat McIntyre line. " we don't carry our sleds in the UP, we ride them" That always cracked me up.

That is a good one, but so is the other guys line about "not being able to carry it with 4 people anyways".

Down where I live in WI, we ride em too, but we put our 10 thousand dollar toys in the garage every night and sometimes that gets tiring putting those piggy's on the dolly's after riding em all day. JMO

Some food for thought here. 4 stroke Turbo loses no H.P. at high elevation and it pushes 210 H.P. The comparable 2 strokes are at about 95 HP. at high elevation so while the Yamaha may be heavier it will make it much further up the hill at high elevation and will be very reliable at the same time. Also with Cat's chassis check out the video on the ready to ride weight. Cat spent 1 million dollars on this technology. It retains the least amount of weight after riding in deep powder by a large amount. You can you tube the actual test. So yes it's heavy and has some negatives for sure but if you consider all the factors it will easily hold it's own.

I started this so I'll chime in....a turbo has nothing to do with the weight of a 4S sled, it's tendency to submarine under the snow, etc. etc. etc. Again I ask, how many 4S sleds are out there vs. 2S sleds IN THE STEEP n DEEP? What's the ratio....20 to 1? 50 to 1? Sure, one can ride whatever they want and MAKE it work for them. But why a 4S?....unless you're a Yamaha ONLY dealer?

Jim I already know I'm not going to win with you and I don't want to win. I just want to state facts. Many guys out west ride heavy 4 strokes and do I know the ratio? The answer is no just like you don't know either. One thing I do know is power to weight ratio and in that category Yamaha can hold it's own just fine. No misdirection only facts my friend:) I also know many guys who have traded in 2 strokes to us for that power to weight ratio and that's also a fact. Does Yamaha win the weight battle? Of course not, that's obvious. However, the Yamaha MTN. Viper did win a stock class in Jackson Hole and that's fact. They did win two cross country races in South Range on December 5th. Just facts my friend, just facts:) The other brands have many excellent upsides and I have experienced many of them first hand. Like they say, there's an *** for every seat:) Even Yamaha!!!!!!

This is a bad ### sled. It is sad that the brand loyal can't see past there tramp stamp. Over 200 HP factory warranty power plant = fun.

Define "many"? You can state as many "facts" as you want Kip. The FACT is that 2S sleds are the choice of sleds when it comes to deep powder riding. You dealers can build as many Viper's with a Push Turbo 220hp, EZ-Ryde Carve skid w/8" billet wheels, Camoplast 155x15x3" track, SLP Powder Pro ski's, Pro front/rear bumpers and Pro Climb running boards as the public will buy...which is what..5?

I deleted the rest......the fishing is just too good here! ;)

I ride only Yamahas. Always have always will. Kip, sweet setup ! I always enjoy the 'weight' discussion. My question is, how many riders are in 'weight compliance' I bet most are 'overweight'. So, lighten the rider weight and you lighten the sled weight !

Could u please tell me the hp of the sled without turbo at said elevation and what a 2s would be with turbo just saying it's not apples for apples I do like the sled and the idea but do not like the aspect of not even comparison

I can't believe no one has asked yet. So what's the price on that thing? BTW, that is one sharp head turning sled!!

what it really comes down to is location of motor mass and rider mass. Right now we are in the evolution of the "manageable 4s boondocker" and great progress has been made with this particular set up. In my opinion we do a great injustice to compare the days of old Yamaha 4s tech to this Cat chassis.

No doubt motor is further back than any Yamaha designed chassis and rider is closer to drive shaft. There will be a day when the magic sweet spot will be had. The submarine comment is not even close anymore as this is a totally different machine. Some people will see a Yamaha name and directly compare it to the RX1. I have ridden a Cat turbo for many miles and the feel is light, steering light. Progress is being made and at the same time we need to not keep out mind lagging behind.

The Yamaha 1050 in the Cat chassis didn't lose much weight if any from the Nytro.
I believe the engine sits a little lower in the Nytro as well.
All of the Yamaha 4 st. have done great when screaming up a mountain in a straight line and a turbo'd R-1 is the ultimate screamer.
But when it comes to technical riding in the mts the weight of the 4 strokes rears its fatazz.
100 plus #'s is alot to overcome no matter how much iron you pump.

I love the trail friendly, reliably constant torque filled pull of my Yam 4 strokes. But if I'm goin off trail the RMK is on the trailer.

When we get more snow you're welcome to stop by and test drive.

Groomer, if you want to test drive it, I'll borrow you a shovel just incase you manage to get it stuck!

This was never meant to say one was better than the other. They all have a place in the market. Some people just want reliability and are willing to sacrifice the lightest sled to ensure they spend their winter riding. Some people just really like cool stuff and I'm one if those guys, I think this is one cool capable turn key reliable sled that will work for a long time.

Cheese and rice, I ride one of the lightest mountain sleds made. They are all fricken heavy when stuck! If you don't like the weight of a 4s sled, trail or mountain, dont buy one. Its as easy as that.

I'll admit way too much sled for me on specs but I do like big ponies & Yam 4s are my fav. I'm a trail rider but do have to ride ungroomed FRs, Lake powder, hay field just to get to the groomed trails. lol I'm riding 2012 XTX with ice ripper in the 160s Hp wise didn't think I needed all that HP but find if you give me power I'll use all of it. Nice sled has to have impressive pull!! Seat belt me in & I'll try it.LOL :)
