Know what you mean. My cousin, who I have not rode with in years, had the 600 etec when I was running an apex. He used a little more than 1/2 of what I did. He still needed to stop - because he was with us, but didn't really need to fuel up. My thoughts however are, the cost of fuel on my 1-2000 mile run per year is pretty small in the grand scheme of things . No issues paying for the fuel. I would however prefer to maximize my riding if possible. So your point is certainly valid!

No pissing match or brand bashing. But obviously the guy on the 850 has no idea how to ride. Unless you were on a tight twisty trail I could see a good rider on the IQ walking him. But in a straight line race that's not happening

Those that know me, know I went back to a 600 E-tec Renegade for 2018 from a 2017 850 Renegade last year. Why? Cost, the 850 is about 2k more and since I buy every year I cut my cost a bit plus I was pissed my 17 850 came in mid-December in 2016.
Anyway, I can say that the 850 Renegade (may not be drag race fastest) is the most natural extension of a human-being to a snowmobile I have ridden. The G-4 is so good that when you ride it, you giggle. It just feels like the sum of it's parts are a singular machine; everything works together nicely. Handling is outstanding and the gas and oil mileage is super too.
Back to the 850 next year most likely.

Well, after a ton of thought and getting my F800 sold I finally picked up a new sled. I decided to go with the 2017 Polaris Assault. It''s all stock, the 1.35 track, the pearl black and ready to go. Heading to Mass City tomorrow, can't wait to get on this sled!

Nice prices abound, outside the Kee or Munising there is no riding! Sleds are piled up galore down here (Fox Valley, WI). I was in Shawano, WI and saw piles of A/C product and thought those sleds would still be sitting next year.
I saw a new 17 Indy 600 with E/S for 5.8 or a demo 17 800 XCR with 490 miles for 8.4 and on and on and on; nice prices with only a $99 doc fee plus tax and reg.

Once again, a sporadic snowfall pattern. Good for buying sleds, new, or used. But bad for riding due to everyone riding in small confined ares.
