Well I completely understand your "slow death", vs. deep discount. It's a matter of paying floor plan interest for 6 months, to gamble on higher margins in the fall. In a perfect world they would take some of that inventory back and redistibute to dealers that could sell it. We have the same problem every year with slow moving and obsolete inventory. Upper management looks at the numbers and has to decide if we ever get an order for these products again, or to lower taxable income by taking the write-off to the obsolescence reserve. We actually reserve for some of that every year but you'd rather reverse the accrual and take the profit than actually have to scrap so much unsaleable inventory. I have no idea how much influence you dealers have, but it might be about time to start pushing back on the prices you have to pay per unit. I realize you can't comment on this, but cost/pricing is out of control in this business. At this rate, customers (fools?) will be paying 20-25 grand for a performance sled in 2025 - no exaggeration. I have a new respect for you after disclosing this information. I'd buy a sled from you if it works out in the future.

kip I have been into your place only once and your brothers I think twice........thanks for the info and service that you guys provide

does a dealer traditionally make more profit (ok any) off of carry over sleds that dealers pick up late in the year or even a year after.

Not you guys but you see dealers all the time offering a "new" year or two old sled at ridiculously cheap prices and they say just got a another load in.

Another question that I would like to see if you will clarify for me as I do not know jack squat (I am married and she tells me that all the time). does your price from the manufacture change based off of the number of new and or new carry over units that you take from the manufacture? Last question you mentioned the dealer paying interest, is the dealer paying interest to the manufacture or are you having to finance the sleds and what not through a local bank?

thanks for any info your willing to share

Thanks XXX007. Scott, we pay interest to a big floor plan company monthly. Yes, there are times when you make money off of non current but it's few and far between. Also, we don't pick up non current sleds but I"m sure some dealers do. The two companies I deal with have been very straight forward for us. Yamaha is flat across the board, doesn't matter how many sleds you order every dealer pays the same. Polaris has a couple of different levels but those levels are only separated by 100 dollars so it's very small. All in all many dealers do take a bath on non currents and sometimes even current models like we're currently doing. It's unfortunate but sometimes you have to lose. It's all based on the owner. If the owner gets jumpy looking at all the inventory then the answer is yes, they will have a fire sale. I don't mind sharing a bit and this explains why you see so many dealerships come and go now, you really have to be on top of things or it can go south quickly. The manufacturers also lose a lot of money at times. The 0% for 60 months costs Polaris & Yamaha roughly 1700 dollars per sled!!! Ouch! I think that's one of the reasons we see Polaris buying up a lot of manufacturing. It gives them a added advantage, smart!

Just picked up a used sled from Kip this morning. I know Kip made a few bucks off me. That's how it works. Where are all the sled dealers going ? Out of business is where they are going. You all cry when the mom and pop places go under. Do you think it's none for profit ? I get up and go to work to make money, so do they. If you don't like the price, don't buy it

With numbers like that I'd tell manufacturer to go find someone else to try and sell/giveaway product.

On the thread topic. if anyone missed the 2017 Sidewinder at Pat's, they will also be in Appleton on Tuesday at Ecklund's by mall and Wednesday at Powersports1.

I bought a brand new sled in February and did so where I ride, the UP. I got a good deal and dealt with even better people. In my dealings, I dealt with Kip at Pat's, Chad at M&M, and Mark at Timberline. All 3 are assets to the snowmobiling community. I know they all put in much more into their businesses than I believe most of would ever consider and I am happy to patronize these shops any day.

My thanks to the UP dealers who truly support the sport in so many ways.

I saw the same SW that was at Kip's at my local Yamaha dealer this past Saturday. I find it funny that certain people on here say "I don't need 200hp" in almost every single post that they make.......well most of us don't use all the available HP on the sled that they currently ride do they? I rarely use the 130hp (or whatever it is) on my Vector!

Damn...it sure would be fun though to have 200hp at your thumbertip! Yee haa!!!! Talk about BIG GRINS!!!!

I was amazed at how open the engine compartment is. Thought I'd see "this and that" all over but didn't......very clean and organized.
Another great thing is that you can access the entire engine by removing 3 panels, and they come off QUICK! Not like on my blue PIG of a Vector.

Well done Yamaha and Cat!

Oh boy, NOW the scales have been tipped to spend 17 grand on that 204 HP machine - the panels come off quick. That was it - I'm headed to the dealer!!!!
Sorry - couldn't resist. Paaaa-lease.
