Well it's official. The all new 2017 Yamaha Sidewinder has been dyno tested and the results are awesome!! 204 HP!!!! I've ridden 200 HP sleds many times and it felt just like that!! I just was hesitant to say until the dyno reports came back. This is great news for Yamaha dealers and customers. Hope some of you that are interested find this information useful. I also forgot to tell you guys that when I test drove this sled it was noticeably quieter as well. Yamaha has also redesigned the sound and vibration through their new and improved cowling and side panels. Time to order them up fellas!!!

Kip...Thanks for posting that, those are some awesome numbers. I'm glad that I ordered mine from your shop last week. I might just have to strap on a Depends when I suit up next year! Like ezra says it's only making 160 hp. at 6500rpm. Vroom-Vroom!

Ezra, thanks for listing that:) Boomer, LMAO! I would say the writing is on the wall for the 2016 and 2017 Apex, my guess is if you're a big Apex fan to gobble one up because this pretty much tells us it's going away and I couldn't help but notice all the comparisons that were made vs. the Apex. I'm sure Y.M.C. will list it conservatively at 180 on the certificate for obvious reasons but here is the proof of what you'll really be getting and I can tell you the clutching was not even dialed in on the prototypes I rode so it will be even better than what I rode. I've seen a couple of them being tested up here this week! I'll keep getting you all any information I can:) Snobuilder, give me a ring, I'll hook you up:)

Kip,

Can you expand on the comments about the Apex? I'm trying to understand what you mean...is it because there is now a 200hp motor available which is obviously more than the Apex therefore the Apex lineup is no longer needed? Do you see the Apex just going away or do you see a replacement for that model? Lastly, if you see a replacement...will it be a purebred Yamaha or a Cat chassis with a Yamaha Motor?

I'm trying to figure out Yamaha's angle and to be honest I'm getting a little tired of speculating year after year. I have a friend that knows a Yamaha rep and this person has stated the 5 year Cat deal is done. The 2017 sidewinder lineup seems to indicate otherwise. The lack of any development in the purebred Yamaha lineup...to me at least indicates either they have big news coming maybe next year for the anniversary or they are done producing pure bred sleds.

Sorry for all the questions but you opened a big can of worms for me.

If your achieving 200+HP in a 3 banger I don't see why the Apex Genesis would be needed anymore. The Turbo would be lighter, more HP, and more efficient than an apex. I love my Apex XTX but it does make sense to go lighter and more HP.

I am not sure where the weight of a current model Apex is. And we won't know what the Sidewinder will weigh until some magazine does an independent weigh-in.
The nytro and the viper weigh about the same so add the weight of the turbo to the SW because the 998 and 1049 engines, IMO, will be the same weight.
The main difference is the way the procross carries that weight. The few Cat 9000 turbos I have ridden have a light steering feel yet they handle the corners well.

What I am amazed at is the flat torque curve. This thing will pull, and just like the test rides stated, the pull is lineal. You can see that in the numbers.
