509 Evolution / Klim F4 Helmets

Was hoping someone that owns one could chime in and give a detailed description of how well the helmet's feel, work, goggle fit, etc... I'm looking at getting one or the other with the aviator goggles and just want someones input. Is it comfortable? How well does in work in Zero degree temps? How hot does it feel in temps above 25-30 degrees?

I have one of the first Klim F4 helmets and have no complaints. I don't know anything about the aviator goggles with it but the Spys I have are good.

First off how do you ride? I tend to push myself and am often hot (regardless of what helmet I wear). I don't think I have ever used the cold weather liner at any temp. I don't really notice the vents but someone wearing it for the first time might.

I ride really aggressive. I have a moto x helmet that i wear which is about 8yrs old and it has just 2 vents in the mouth piece, and my head gets really hot.

Both. I'm not worried about the cold breeze that always finds a way into your face when cruising down the trail doing mach 1. I could always add something else to try and keep it warm around the goggles. Just want to have a good helmet that breathes good in any temp and has a decent seal around goggles.

My face is usually cold on cold days when I am hauling down the trail. That being said, I think any MX style helmet is going to be cold.

I use a Klim Convert balaclava and it works well but sometimes wind sneaks in around the goggles. I'm deal with this because I love the goggles and they don't fog easily. I think there might be goggles out there that fit better but I really have no interest in them. When I'm hot from playing in the woods the air that sneaks in is welcomed.

I know nothing about the 509 gear..

No wonder your always sweatin. Why are you always pushin yourself? Run out of gas, or just can't figure out how to get on the sled? :D

On a serious note, I agree with Keith. Never had an issue with my F4 except for the fins breaking off when you hit your head on something. I've also never used the cold weather liner. The right combination of balclava, goggles and the F4 work great together. The helmet really breathes nice.

If you weren't so tall, you could just ride under the branches, instead of through them. ;)

I did not have my F4 long enough to get a good feel for it. I have heard good and bad things about the 509 helmet, by the way, the 509 helmet is made by AFX, if you look at the AFX FX-17 helmet, it is the same thing. 509 says the inside of the helmet is different, but I don't believe them. The outside, is exactly the same. Basically, 509 is charging you an extra 100 bucks for their graphics.

I have a Fly Racing F2 Carbon Fiber helmet that I tried last winter, I really liked it, I put in a universal HJC breath box, klim balaclava, very little fogging, and it is vented very well.

Ok Cuzz, Skylar and Doospunk.

Your all banned for bashing. :D We all gotta ride together this winter- eh? I am tasting strudel for breakfast and a burger or Chicago style Italian beef from the Mosquito for lunch. Dinner, well, we'll probably not make it out of the bush, so no plans at this point.

Back on track. I have both the older version of the F4 and the new one. Both vent very nicely. I will say that something was amiss with the breath box on the new F4. I could never get it to sync with my goggles (Scott), so I swapped out the breath box on the old F4 into the new F4 helmet and all was good again. I guess there were some issues with the breathbox on the new F4's and Klim has addressed it for this next season.

Eeeeeek! The whip was cracked.

I'm going to guess the Doo rider gets stuck the most! :p Everyone is always up for strudel and I can bring up some Kringle that is also very tasty. Lunch that one day at the Mosquito was great! Now we need to pray for a good season. I think we should do a prayer service at the trail clean up this year. :D

Prayers would be good as would some Kringle.

405" at Twin Lakes and Delaware this season!

PS. I'm thinking the Doo will be on the back end of a bungie lots too.

Just teasing Kris. I hope I don't eat those words!

hooked on the back of the bunge, at the Skeeter, over some strudels, in the woods, tipped over, or whatever......, I'm always looking forward to the next trip up there. Mowing the yard just isn't cutting it anymore! Using his skilled profession as a wedding planner, let's leave it to Keith to co-ordinate. ;)
