Does anyone have any experience with the 509 sinister x5 goggle with the photocromatic lens? Want to know if it's worth the money. Have Scott goggles now with blue lens and like them. Run during day and night and really only issue is at twilight. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I've had nothing but bad luck with 509 goggles. Constant fogging. Thats just me though. Several buddies have same problem with constant fogging, others have no problem at all. Everbody is different. Trial and error. This past weekend i tried "100%" goggles a bud had. 30$ set of cheapy goggles and I think they were the best I've ever used. All about what fits your face and helmet correctly and as I said its trial and error to find what works for YOU.

I ordered a set of the photocromatic goggles and returned them right away. Don't get dark at all. Not worth the money. I had nothing but problems last week with my 509 helmet and goggles fogging was terrible. I bought a heated shield modular helmet and its the best thing I ever did. Wanna buy a 509 helmet and 2 sets of sinister goggles???

I think fogging comes down to fit. If your breath is getting into the goggles, no matter the brand, they will fog.

I started out with a balaclava that has the breath deflector over the nose and it works well.

I run 2 sets .... one polarized and one clear.

Had nothing but problems with 509s. Constant fogging, easily scratch able lenses. This year I got 2 pairs of oakley crowbars, one being the rose tinted prizms and I couldn't be happier. Haven't had one single fogging issue, I even leave them on when pulling out my sled and buddies sleds! Hitting the gym, and not overdressing plays a huge role in goggle fogging also. The lense quality and vision on the oakleys are in incredible. Couldn't pay me to try anything else, I'm sold!

I have 509 Aviator Dollar Bill that has a yellow tint. Like them. Yes they do fog sometimes, bought a better balaclava and make sure it and the goggles are sitting correctly and no fogging.

BIG disclaimer with this thread... Riding style. I wore 509s trail riding for years and never had them fog up. I usually spend half my day digging sleds out I tree lines drenched in sweat fwiw.

I only fog my 509 when my head and face sweat. Any goggles will do that. I've had a few different brands, and the all are about the same for fogging. By far the most important thing is getting the fit right. If breath hits the outside, they will fog and clear up when you get moving. If your head gets hot, they will fog up from your sweat on the inside and are done until you get them dried out good. Wiping them down doesn't work. Warm dry air does.

I only wear moto X and goggles out west. I can't stand moto X helmet and Goggles trail riding.

Thanks for the responses. 2nd question, how is the 509 altitude helmet with other brand goggles? My helmet and goggle set up is 10 years old and works well just looking to upgrade more for the safety issue of helmet breaking down on the foam and etc.

Have used 509 goggles for years and they are hands down the best goggles for snowmobiling. If guys are fogging 509's you must fog the sh*t out of other brands..

Now that Polaris bought 509 I expect the quality to go to crap..ha

all goggles and lid combo depends 100% on users face shape . the 509 are decent I have a clear and a black ops polarizes they are fine for me but if my wife uses they fog .
all u can do is borrow a bud and tro or spend the money and hop for the best. I really like my triple 9 goggles I got this yr also.
I like all my day time lenses to be polarized. I have buds complaining about the 509 that are supposed to get dark then light say they are so so

I've had mixed opinions from customers with the 509 goggles. I can tell you that we sell a lot of the tripple 9 goggles and for the money they work well and people have been happy with them. If you want a higher end goggle we've also had good luck with the dragon goggles, a lot more money but with some nice features and if you want a transitional lense theirs are NOT cheap but they do work great and they're one of the only goggles that have optical correct lenses meaning your vision is not distort anywhere. Nice stuff but yes they're spendy. Scott goggle has just come out with a really nice set of new goggles, still waiting to get feed back from customers on those.

509 with fan works fine for me. But my new Oakley goggles are the chit.

I use Rain-ex on my goggles and have pretty good luck- the instructions say -not for plastic- but I have not noticed any damage after many years- some guys bring alcohol wipes on the trail- you would think that would mess up your goggles but it doesn't seem too, it's roll of the dice and a lot of trial and error as others have said

I have had good luck with 509 goggles and just got a new 509 carbon helmet this year (had a carbon Fly last year) never really had any issues except some isolated issues as mentioned above, not sealed good or sweating some, but nothing that wouldn't have happened to any setup.
I used the 509 transitions last week while in the UP and really like them, not saying they are the "best" for low light but they work OK and was nice going from low light into sunlight.

Chad,
I had a buddy that had Dragon goggles a while back and they weren't very helmet friendly and didn't fit very well. Which Dragon goggles are helmet friendly or would you recommend?
And how do they compare to the 509 transitions as far as performance in low light?

Thanks,

CW

I'm guessing he had the NSX goggles if they didn't fit his helmet, they're BIG! They do fit into helmets but it takes a little time to get adjusted. They did come out with a NSX"s" that is smaller and will fit easier. Everything but the standard SNX will fit in just about any helmet. I really like the new X2, nice looking goggle, good vision and the quick release to change out the lenses are great! For something a little cheaper the Vendetta Dragon goggles are really nice and have the "outriggers" on them. As far as transitional goggles go, I'm hearing it's the only one that works well. So well that most of my customers that do have them comment that it changes so fast that you don't hardly notice. And they better be that good for the price!

FLY Helmet and Klim goggles work great as a combo. A huge recommendation is to wear your balaclava on your chin and not over your mouth and nose!!! Try it!!

The age old debate on goggle X sucking. There are SO MANY things that play into goggle performance that many give up on a goggle before they figure out that it's not the goggle.

#1. Never use a breath box
#2. Never let moisture get inside the goggle i.e. snow.
#3. Use the right balaclava
#4. Does your helmet have proper ventilation
#5. What kinds of gear are you riding in, are you overheating?

We have been using 509 X5's since they came out and now are using the light sensing X5. I've not taken them off my helmet the whole season besides Saturday when it was sunny. Black Ice and Carbon are both clear to blue and are perfect for low light and night riding. Blackfire is orange to dark blue and perfect for blue bird days. They have changed the way people will buy goggles. I've tried just about every goggle on the market and own Triple 9, Klim and 509's.

Over heat and fog, get snow inside the goggle you'll fog, use the wrong balaclava and your breath will fog the goggle. It's not always the goggles fault.
