my 800 was running down the trail about 5000 rpm, when it lost power. I tried to start back up but it was seized. The only issue was the idle was running higher then normal. I am just wondering if anyone has had this and what to expect once I tear it down. any help would b great. thank you

Sounds like too much air. Check carb boots. Pistons are toast or crank froze bad sealed bearings & nothing you could do about it hope it is top end.

Even if just a top end with 5000 miles would still do a complete tear down and replace crank seals and repack the bearings...saveing $200 now will cost you $500 in a year....

I'd guess the same thing. High/low idle can be due to to much air getting through a torn carb boot. Were you having issues with the RER when going into reverse as well? i.e. - did it engage, or did it stop all together?

You might think about a short block from the dealer w/ warranty if you are going to keep the sled.Top and bottom end ........check with the dealer won't be much difference.

Is an issue with the RER an indication that there was air getting through?

with 5000 mi on a 800 doo you were riding a crank bearring time bomb like above stated eaven if just a top end do the crank at the same time dont bother geting a quote for getting crank rebuilt at dealer 3x the cost as most race shops and then you still get half ars bearings.I had a local guy do my crank all new bearings and pined at the same time was less than 500 I just brought him the bottem end that was over 6 yrs ago last doo I owned

you only get the warrenty if the dealer performs all the work at that point prob allot cheeper to part it out and buy new toy

X2 on the warentee...short block is around $1500 with core.

Short block is cheaper then a total rebuild, but if all you gotta do is pistons, grease and seals and do it yourself should be able to do that for under $700.

Thank you for all help so far ....... it did not have any issue in revs.....it is a 2005 and one other thing I didn't mention is that the tach is stuck on 3500 and the speedo at 35 mph kinda weird.

Had the dealer with 1 year warranty factory rebuild on doo 800 cost $2,200 & then I was married to the old POS for a couple of years. Not many options...... I hate doo 2s engines time bombs @ 5000 miles. Now a 4s guy only.

My 06 did the same thing. I went with a big bore kit from rk teak which is absolutely awesome. My carb boot tore AND my oil pump came outnof adjust from 18 to 22, AND my bearings were within a handful of miles from falling to pieces. I would thoroughly look everything over and do a leak down test. Mine went at 4k. Just my 2 cents. Good luck
