900 ace Compared to 600 etec

by this asinine quote it's obvious you never rode one and yes they do make a 2015 ace 600

The ace 9 is an over priced due to high tech demise a sleddin.
The drive by wire is a frikken joke....try to control the flipper in the pow....LOL..you can't!
On the trail you have to giver 1/2 paddle to get it to move and then it produces Poo 550 performance from there!....LMAO!....congrats! you just paid $10,000.00 for a $6000.00 performer!

does Doo still produce the "ace" 600 because I can't imagine someone wanting LESS performance than the "ace" 9 has to offer.

I agree with Timo. Snobuilder needs to pull his head out of that dark place. Innovative technology and excellent execution by Ski Doo, and that's coming from a guy who has ridden Polaris most of his life.

From what I'm reading, it seems like the ACE 900's power is similar to a 600 on the low end and a 500 on the high end, the weight is similar to a 2 stroke, and it gets 20+ MPGs in most conditions?

Sounds about right, weight may be just a bit heavier than say a Doo 600 Sport or etech, but it feels good to me.

I've been averaging 22mpg's.

Hoosier hit it right on the head. This 900 just seems to grow on you. The more I rode it, the enjoy factor just kept growing. The Renegade seems to pull harder due to gearing. But then it also gives up some top end. Our 600's have more top end, but I was always taking the 900 when able. Plus it is sooooo quiet you just can't believe what you are doing. The first few rides are really different as to the noise factor.

Check out the 900's performance numbers in latest American Snowmobiler mag. Oh...even compared to 550 fan, not even close.

I never liked Ski-Doo's for some reason, but I'd like to try one of these. We like to ride a lot of miles but it gets old buying gas at $4 and oil at $28/gallon. Of course I still have a carbed sled getting 10 MPG's, so when the time is right for a new sled, would need to compare to the costs of operating a newer 2 stroke at 14/15 MPG's.

We have rode Renegades for high mile trips, such as Canadian. They are much more able in unexpected deep snow when a long ways from home. That being said , the 900 ACE was for the long fuel range ability. The fuel stops are getting further between in Canada. This is our first 4 stroke, as we keep our sleds and they have very high miles but kept in top condition. The 900 Ace is everything we needed.

600E-Tec, stronger, faster over 65mph, and more top speed. MPG's very close, E-tec slightly better, but E-tec prefers Prem grade gas. Fuel range very close.

I didn't know the E-tec did that well on gas. Probably wouldn't go through much oil then either. Does Door still have trouble with the rings or crank bearings in their 600's? You don't seem to hear much about Doo problems like you did a couple years ago. Are guys putting high miles on them?

The 04's (and maybe earlier, not really sure) had ring issues. Depending on who you ask, this was fixed for 05's. Some people say that the early 05's had issues, but my 05 was a spring order and it never had the issue -- it had 10,062 trouble-free miles on it when sold and was never opened. Of course, this was an SDI and not an E-tec so it might be a different matter.

Never heard of a crank bearing issue on the 600's, I thought that was more of an 800 thing.

I've got 3 600 etec's 09,10,13 got over 10k on 9, 8800 on the 10 and 4400 on the 13. Had the 09 pulled apart at 8k just because (2s mentality) the mechanic that Goodwin performance said there was basically nothing wrong. Had new pistons and rings put in again just because it was apart why take a chance. Also repacked the crank bearings they are sealed on the etec, no reason to replace. Even reed valves still good. With the 2010 I'm just going to keep riding it until I have a problem, my wife rides it and said it still has the same feel as new power wise.

Thanks. I am not very familiar with them. Do they still use sealed crank bearings? I thought that was a cause of higher mileage problems with them...

The 04,05 weren't the etec,s I believe all the etec,s have the sealed bearings because they don't use enough oil to lube bearings properly so the sealed bearings are used. That's what I was told when I had my 09 done. Like I said earlier my going to have the 2010 checked out and if compression is good and everything else looks ok I'm just going to keep running it see if I can get 10 to 15 k on it. If I have a problem then I will get it fixed or buy a new one. But with the luck I've had with the etec 600 I will stay with them over a ace900 had a chance to ride the 900 just like the 600 better JMO.

When I was at my dealer last, A guy was trying to trade in an etec with 18k miles on it......my dealer was a little stumped as he didnt know what the sled would be worth with that many miles. I also saw an etec for sale in quebec not to long ago with 28K kilometers and it was an 800!!Only reason i noticed it was becuase the guy wanted about half what a normal milaged sled would be worth. so they have racked some miles up and are still running.....i would have high confidence up to 10K especially on the 600 no problem

Sorry if I upset some of you Doo faithful, but I DID ride one and when I got off the 1st thing I asked the owner was is this thing in econo mode? It wasn't ...he said it was in sport mode...I then asked if that was the best performance mode and he said yes...I said, well at least it gets good fuel mileage, eh?

The OP asked for a comparison between it and the e-tek 600. I assume the e-tek 600 is close to the Poo 600 in performance, right?
Well compared to my buds '13 indy 600 it was an embarrassing short drag race at one point during our ride....not even close, hence the 550 fanner comment.
The poo 550 is only 15hp less and at least 75 pounds less...should be a good race.

Ur drag racing a 90hp sled vs a lighter 120+hp sled.....Ur post was just ignorant....im assuming you were drunk lol

I would bet a lot that the ace would dust the 550 fan for what its worth. Altho as u said u have to be at half throttle before the ace moves...gimme a break

sorry you need to take this thread personal and then flame out at me, but I was responding to the OP's question as to how the ace900 would measure up to a 600 2 stroke...it doesn't come close.

BTW the drag race was the idea of the ace 900 owner who was told the performance was close to a 600 2 stroke...I think I read that claim somewhere myself, so yea, why would ppl want to compare a 90hp to 120hp?
I guess he was deceived by the Doo faiythfuls.

Ur post made zero sense and was completely inaccurate. Dont think the orginal poster was concerned about a DR, it would have been easy to say that performance wise the 600 has more power and would be faster. Not the thing doesnt move until half paddle or whatever mumbo jumbo you were blabbering. End of story good day

snobuilder, don't think the guy who's 900 you rode was right about which mode it was in,and obviously you couldn't
figure it out!
In sport mode it will accelerate with little throttle movement.
I ride a '11 600 switchback and in my opinion the 900 renegade is very comparable and I think just about as quick to 80,
top out at 90 like my switch, because of gearing, and talk about quiet, but I am old.
