A friend has a '95 XLT SKS with 12K+ miles (bought it new) and we were out for a ride and had stopped at a trail intersection and I noticed his sled was dripping some coolant.
Opened the hood, coolant was evident on the front of the engine right near/below the radiator hose onto the waterpump, some below the exhaust and I recall some under the clutches(?), but not sure how the coolant was leaking prior to when we stopped.
All heat exchangers were cool as were the hoses which go to & from them.
The coolant bottle was full, actually a bit above the "max" line, not sure where it was prior to this problem. Unscrewed the cap on the resevoir and no pressure, but prior to loosening it we could here a slight noise like it was trying to vent? After removing the cap, all of the coolant in the resevoir emptied out.
I went and was able to get a gallon of 50/50 pre-mixed coolant from a local store & when we removed the radiator cap, it was definately low, not sure how much he added, ran it less than a minute, and now noticed that the waterpump belt wasn't turning. Shut it off right away.
The owner said the temp light never came on-another thing to verify if that even works.
We left the sled, retrieved it later and will have to pull the recoil/cover over the waterpump to see what is going on.
Anyone have any ideas on what may have happened, what to look for?
Problem with the drive pully for the waterpump, bad drive belt??
