I wonder why the police didn't investigate this further and just send him back to school? Obviously there was some mis-guided information from the school that kept him in the police station. Schools are really cracking down these days. Heck my 5 year old girl said they can't wear tank tops anymore because they consider it inappropriate. Even when they wear sweat shirts over the top of them!
I agree with one post that states the parents are a common problem but I don't totally agree with that. Most of these kids get their behavior from other kids too. Parenting is a very challenging job and sometimes it takes more than "perfect" parents to raise them well.

I have a question? When i was in high school and middle school, we had archery class in gym? Not with broad heads but still?? Target tips with haybales Do they do that anymore?

Our High School still does this. Funny how that's o.k. And, they do a physics experiment where they have to make a "machine" (ie. levers, wedges, screw, basic machine principles), and almost all of them come in with razor blades, knifes, very sharp objects. My daughter's had an 18" Machette (sp?) on it. Checked with the school first, but it's like that every year. But we also had a kid suspended in grade school a few years back because his mom sent a plastic knife in his lunch box (back when all this BS started....). I think our school is pretty good about it, but things still pop up now and then. But sending an 11 year old to jail is just major STUPIDITY.

Well, if it was truly an knife sharpener, and not a knife.

The very first thing she should do is march right down to that school and demand a meeting with the entire school board.

Then she should call her local news station. They would love to put a story like that on the air to make that school and the police officers who allowed this look like morons on the nightly news.

Very true. But from whom do these other kids learn their behavior?

Absolutely true. Ironic, isn't it, that we need hours of training and a license to drive a car but for the huge responsibility of creating another human being and bringing him/her up in the big bad world we need.....nothing. No, I'm not suggesting that we need licenses to become parents. After all, it has been done for hundreds, if not thousands of years without them, and, until relatively recently, with few problems. Just a casual observation on the degeneration of our society as a whole.

It got me interested in bow hunting? I suppose that is gone now. I think the world is going to **** and I actually feel sorry kids these days. Unfortunatly things will never be the same again, I just hope there are some parents left out there with common sense and they raise their kids to have some as well. Otherwise we really are dommed! Schools are NOT going to teach that to our kids for us, and I have seen plenty of adults and kids where its clearly to late for them.

i have archery in my high school but the arrows are modified and have some rubber crap instead of broadheads

Nope - can't use chalk. The dust is a respiratory hazard. Oh wait - yes you can use chalk, but you must use a damp cloth to erase the board and then dispose of the used cloth and any excess liquid in accordance with federal, state and local regulations.

lol i do hate chalk though

now it's dry erase, with boards that when you write on them, you can then print what you wrote on the board...kinda cool actually.

Oh wait, then you have the huffers...sniffers...whatever you call them...yup, back to chalk.

they're actually going away from dry-erase! now it's smartboards!!!! yippee! and the projector for those things has a $300 lightbulb and they go out every year! tax money going to work!

And we wonder why our taxes are so high.

Chalk boards worked just fine.

But it's just sooo much easier for the teachers!!!! If it's too hard for you to write on a board, they need to get out in the real world and get a real job then.

The projector reminds me of the time when we put popcorn seeds inside on the lamp and waited for the "machine gun" to go off....pretty funny at the time.

That is exactly what I would do.

Then to prove a point I would sue the school district/and police department for all the trauma that my kid had to endure. Then after all the money grubbing attorneys take 2/3rds of the settlement, I would use what ever is left to put the kid in privet school where he/she would likely get a much better education.

All that to prove a point, sure my local taxes would go up to cover the budget short fall in the school and local PD. It would still be worth it. It is about time people are held accountable for their stupidity.

Pretty ingenious....I wish I'd have thought of that when I was in school!

Indy 500 is putting his heart into it! lol. I used to clean the erasers in a machine that blew dust everywhere. That was in 1965 when I was eating the paste out of the big jars!

And I used to stick paper airplanes into the kiln in metal shop, then give them a fling once they had a good flame going. Now they pay me to put out fires. Who'd have thunk it?

Ah, good times indeed.
