A little over an hour ago, I was watching this guy buzz some cabins on the lake and then he finally decided to land. He seemed to come in way too fast and steep and tried to land on one ski. The impact was very loud and I headed right out there on my sled. Thankfully, no one was hurt. I felt bad for the guy, but the landing seemed poor to me.

A little softer and deeper than he thought huh? At least it's fixable and he didn't flip it over nose first.

That plane is done, and that is to bad as I love planes landing on lakes. Just last Saturday on Lake Como in S/E wi I was having lunch at Mar's and 13 planes landed on the lake. Most were on wheels some were on skis as the lake was wind blown with very little snow.

The plane on the this post has a bent prop, that = crankshaft inspection $$$. The landing gear is wrecked and the wing may have been damaged. I hope that I am wrong and the bird gets back in the air. I am just glad no people were injured.

LD

Was it suppose to be a planned landing?

Yep, but it was way too steep and fast IMO. I'm no expert, but I didn't like his approach and why he landed on 1 ski so hard I have no idea.

Yeah, the prop was bent and the left wing looked tweaked some. I'm just wondering how they plan to get it off as there is tons of slush out there!

If they get it before it freezes they will haul it out with a big helicopter.

There are several people out there on the lake now working on it. I will keep an eye on things and update as needed.

I just went down to the lake with my binoculars and they have the wings off of it and are taking it apart. There are about 8 guys out there working on it.

As a guy that has restored an old airplane and built a plane, that does not look too bad. Any wing damage is probably the biggest deal. The engine will need to be disassembled and inspected/repaired because of the prop strike (which can certainly cost some bucks) but otherwise if the owner is motivated and can afford it based on these pictures, that airplane could be flying again pretty quickly.

I'm pretty sure this guy is from a group that has several old war planes restored and fly from a grass airfield within a few miles from here. I'm sure it will be fixed.
