Yeah, I read that. I guess somebody is leasing it this winter and will be running the motel plus serving breakfast. Can anyone verify?

My wife and I keep tossing around the idea of leaving our thankless (but good paying) jobs down here and buying a business like that. Last time I was in Mass I don't recall there being too much else there. Is there gas and food in town?

Ah back in the day. Yummy. Driving up the 30th, waking up to 30" of freshies, traveler's omelette, homemade bread, and first tracks.

Spoke with Nancy a week or so ago and she said she was running the business this winter but not serving breakfast. Staying there in a couple of weeks so will find out maybe then.

Wow. That's a depressing story that goes way beyond one small business owner.
Snowmobilers, dirt riders and a handful of hunters is all that's left to support the small old UP communities like Mass City.

I think the same can go for many communities in the northwoods. What really got my attention last year is how many are cash only. They are really watching every last penny to maximize profits. I can't blame them at all and it just reconfirms the need for us to support northwoods tourism. We need them for our sport to survive too.

Yes there is a neat little grocery store with everything you need and a nice gas station right next to the motel.

Stayed there a handful of times. It is a shame what is happening to the entire Northwoods in general. I think back over my last 20+ years of riding up in that area and so much has changed, I find myself complaining some times on how much more expensive it is now, but if it keeps people in business which we all need it is totally worth it. Someone already stated it but we need them probably more than they need us. We all help each other, unfortunately I don’t know if there is a good answer on how to fix things.

It is depressing. The same has happened to nw wisc although not quite as severe. There are nowhere near the businesses there used to be and most of the ones that are left are for sale. Mich had copper and Wisc had cows. Both are gone. There is still logging in Wisc but certainly not enough to make things boom. The snowmobiling season has to help a lot of these smaller Ma and Pa places but nobody is ever going to build anything expensive and new that only cash flows 2 and 1/2 months a year if that. On top of that there are years now when it doesn't snow. In Wisc anyway. When these little places finally close nobody is going to magically appear to keep them going. In ten years we will all be staying at somebody's rental cabin out in the woods or else a big chain motel with a big chain restarant next door.

We really enjoyed eating breakfast there! It was never too busy and the food always good. It doesn't help businesses any when we have this kind of snow on the ground for the opener and we can't go out for 2 weeks yet due to extended hunting season for muzzleloader and antlerless.

Thanks for sharing! Went there for a few years back in early 90's when I first started riding in the UP. Brought back many happy memories.

I am going to make a point to stay at the adventure this season and offer to make NANCY breakfast! who is with me? I think she would get a kick if 30 people offered to make HER breakfast this season

She will be really excited if you pay for your room and don't talk about breakfeast. :bull_head:
