Congrats on the new house, enjoy it and don't look back!!!!

NOW is the time to buy people

I would love to take advantage of the market and move into a bigger house in a better location, unfortunately I can't afford to take the 60 thousand dollar hit to get out of my house that I bought just 5 years ago.

Bought it thinking I got a good deal and 5yrs later it's worth half of what I paid

Thanks for the tips Booondocker, that is good advice and i agree. For the one's that cant convince thier wives...keep working on them. I would show her things online like cheap homes, nice parks/ campgrounds and waterfalls. Job openings and other cool things to do in the U.P. And of course the Journals and pics from this site. My wife really loved camping right on Lake Superior. The Union Bay area of the Porcupine Mountains in the Western U.P. has camp sites 15 feet from the Lake. She was amazed that there were so many stars that we cant see living in NE Il. And then sunrise, ill post a pic. 1st. us checking out the lake when we arrived 2nd my daughter working the grill 3rd the little ones woke up early on thier own to see the sunrise. Here is another nice home in Ironwood for $17,000. http://upaor.fnismls.com/publink/default.aspx?GUID=baab77e6-9b29-45ec-b9ac-1f54d2deb0bd&Report=Yes

George very nice house, hope there's a room for me and jt. to come up sleddin!!!!!!!!!!

Yes for sure! You guys can come up and stay whenever you want. I am already planning a basement bedroom that has its own entrance for guests. And we are only a few minutes south of the trail that runs through Ironwood. Sadly i had to sell my ZR 800 to put me over the top with cash for the place. I will be on the hunt at least for an older sled to ride this season...... And not having enough dough to leave is fine with me Ubee...I just have to feed the kids and pay the taxes!

Well i have been dreaming of moving north from northeast Illinois for many years and it has come true! I now own (No mortgage) a 1820 square foot 1 1/2 story 3 bedroom home with basement and a newer 2 car detached garage on a half acre lot in Ironwood Mi........ Many things have prevented me from doing the move. 1st...always hearing (mostly from Illinois people) "theres no work up there" 2nd...Having a steady job at one company for 5 years as a bricklayer here, 3rd..the wife saying (mentioned once during an argument).... "IAM NOT MOVING WAY THE H*#& UP THERE WITH YOU!!!!". All of those have been worked out and a couple miricles have happened....and I thank God. Ever since i first got a computer i have been looking at the classifieds in the Keweenaw and Ironwood area. I said to the wife "there has to be more to life than living around here dealing with the traffic and holding on to the Illinois Union wages"...As far as work, I have several contacts on work in the area, many recently... Plus i will doing my own masonry work at a very reasonable rate. And my old job, the work dried up at my smaller Illinois masonry co...screw the "steady job" excuse. And finally the Wife......shes not crazy about snow or the cold, thinks its beautifull/enjoys snowmobiling if its not too cold but prefers summer. I have shown her many photos from John's Journal's that first inspired her and us to drive 400 miles to camp at the Porkies,.. beautifull experience, then to consider the awesome home prices and unique character of Ironwood with all the festivals and other perks...it sparked her intrest we vivited the area, saw the Black River Falls just 10 minutes away and she was sold on moving to the U.P. !!!! and we have been getting along great. No more lame Chicago storms that called for up to 14" of snow in a single storm last year and we got a wet 4" !!! Ironwood recieved 166" last year. One storm in December snowing a inch an hour for 22 hours straight.(Daily Globe) Thank you John for you inspiration!....... NOW is the time to buy people(if you can), There are several fixxer uppers and a couple nice big homes for around $12,000 in Ironwood. Some around $8000....a pic of the garage, front shot and then us with the realator.

The Gogebic area is nice. We closed on a house in February in Ironwood. Big 3 story house on 1 Acre in town for $15,000. Will require about $15,000 of work. We didn't get that bad of deal.
