Congrats! Since you have actually accomplished the goal of moving up north from Illinois is there any tips you would have for someone like myself looking to do the same. There has to be work up there its just finding it. thank you, Sky

Very nice!

The one thing that hit home for me was your sentence about the Illinois traffic. There is nothing better (sarcasm here) than living only 10 miles from work but having to drive 45 min to 1 hour to get there. You may have to sacrifice some things by moving up there, but if you lead a happier, less stressful life it is 100% worth it in my opinion.

All the best to you and your family!

I guess I did it backwards. I was born and raised in Ironwood, and moved to the Wausau area about 15 years ago. One thing I can tell you is I definitely took growing up in that area for granted. The serenity and beauty of that area is unmatched. I still have my mother, brother, in-laws (they live in Hurley), and a bunch of friends up there, so me and the family do get up quite a bit being only 2 hours away. Nice being able to keep the sleds up there-don't have to trailer back and forth.

I can't really compare the likes of Wausau to Chicago, your rat race and mine are a bit different--but we are in agreement on one thing. The UP is fantastic!!

Arcticgeorge-Congrats on livin' the dream, and welcome to one of the nicest places you will find. You won't have any trouble making friends, and I'm certain you will have no regrets. The people of the UP are as welcoming as anybody.

Also...kudos to the wife for allowing you to follow your dream. Any woman that ultimately sacrifices for the betterment of her husband (and family) is a keeper:)!!

Congrats on the move!!...Just saw this thread and sent it to the wife and she responded "I agree with it all, find a job + go". Being in manufacturing probably is the main reason we have held back not to mention we are doing pretty good and trying to build up for the future. We did finally manage to buy some property in Lando and build a nice sled shed. Altho I did not realize you can get houses for that price, heck for what we paid for our prop/shed I could have almost bought a block of houses, but in the area and time we were looking prices were still very high, even now the one last parcel next to me which is pretty crappy and probably the worst of them all is 20k more than what we paid, all because they put a TINY drive in. Maybe I have to open my eyes wider and look from a different direction. ENJOY!!!
