Air shocks vs coil-over

So what's the advantage of the air shocks over the traditional coil-over shocks? All the higher end suspension packages have gone to air shocks. Are they easier to adjust? You don't have the issues with the oil leaking out of them and needing to be rebuilt?

The only real advantage is weight. You lose the weight of the spring. They still have oil in the shock and still need to be rebuit just like any other shock. The air chamber is only taking place of the spring.

Yep weight reduction with air..... I am not a fan yet of air but may not have a choice from OEMs. Should unweight sled to add or bleed air another complication and need hand air pump on board. Air shocks perform ok but then you do have temp change adjustments as well.

I didn't know they still had oil and needed to be rebuilt

I have had many sets of both . for a trail sled the coil overs are much better at least that was the way it was with my f's . for deep snow the air is fine

Agree, I like the floats and they have come a very long way since the first gen, and find them to work fine off trail and even taking the groomed trail to the riding spots. I will say the coil overs seem to have a better "feel" to them, but thats my opinion.

The new Floats are OK. As has been stated the reason they came into being in the first place was weight. Also they can be set up to never bottom out. If you ride really hard you will like the Floats. However if you are a normal trail rider a quality coil over will probably be a better choice. Plus the new Floats can be expensive.
