American Chopper Sr. VS. Jr.

For what it's worth Ezra, I agree that most of the programming on TV stinks these days, but then again, that is just my opinion. That and fifty cents will buy you a cup of coffee at Allouez Amoco. I am sometimes embarrassed to admit that I watch American Choppers because if you take the show purely at face value, it is dumb! I have no idea what the attraction is, but I go with it, because it entertains me most of the time. Different strokes for different folks I guess.

I don't HAVE to watch it, just catch it when I can. With a couple of buttons pushed, the satellite box can be setup to record first run episodes of anything you want, so that is how I end up watching it- tape delay when I have time.

Just busting you chops there a little. I figured if you really were in a funk, what better way than to pretend I was a nagging wife! :D Sorry for that one ladies!

Wonder if Jr, Sr & Mikey each get a check to be on the show??

Can't imagine Sr would be the only one.

Got to wonder where all Jr's $$ for the new shop is coming from. Lots of expensive machinery.

Sorry to hear about your loss. No fun at all, but sounds like your good friend went out with a full belly and all of your love. Doesn't get much better than that for a dog.

Another difference between now and the 70's is that many of the channels of **** on the TV are in high definition.

Junior

Great thread! I'm gonna have to take Junior's side on this one. It kinda ticks me off that it has turned in to a drama fest. I know its one really good example that money doesn't always make you happy. I think that paul sr. success does fall on paul jr. and on that same token paul jr. wouldn't be where he is without sr. SO, it was a good show about building really good stuff. But now drama. Yes, they did show that jr. did show up late and whatever.. He probably should have quit a long time ago. Who would put up with a boss that communicates by yelling all the time.

Think Sr & Jr both share the blame. Sr fails to recognize that JR is as responsible for the success of OCC as he is. Sr comes & goes when he please so why shouldn't Jr be able to do the same. It hasn't been until Jr left OCC that Sr had to step up & play a bigger role.

here is my take, Jr learned Srs explosive, yelling, degrading, sarcastic attitude of dealing with people. Sr is responsible for that and Jr is now responsible for his own. All their problems are symptoms of these unchecked behaviors. You can still see Sr S attitude even with JR not being there, just when he is dealing with his other employees. I'm not saying JR is a saint, he learned it as a normal way of life. I can say many attitudes passed from dad are often laid to rest with the next generation. My dad is an alcoholic and not I nor my 2 brothers abuse alcohol. I hope JR recognizes this and makes the changes. He doesn't seem to exhibit the harshness as pops does. Also, they may over emphasize situations for ratings. I like the show for the builds and also enjoy when the two go at it, especially when they start bustin up stuff.

Last nights episode is a perfect example of Jr.s attitude thinking he built OCC when it was much more than him. There are a lot of talented people in that shop and for Mikey to say they are the "heart and soul of OCC" is just pure arrogance. Correct me if I am wrong, but dosen't Jason Poole design all of the bikes on his auto cad and Jr. just tweaked what he has on paper. From the looks of the bikes OCC is putting out on this season, it does not look like losing Jr. has hurt their product one bit. Maybe he overestimated his importance. OCC survived without Vinnie, they will survive without Jr.

The show made OCC what it is- period. They make some nice bikes, but so do all the builders on biker build-off and I don't see them with the kind of operation that OCC has. Bottom line is OCC got 60 minutes of free, no wait, they got paid a rear-end load of cash to have their business promoted on TV every week for 60 minutes, more if you want to count repeated episodes.

I am not against this at all and are happy for them and their success, but to think that their bike building talents got them what they have now is a pipe dream. If it were not for the show, they would either still be building bikes out of their basement or would be not building bikes at all.

For what it's worth, I think Jr did do the lions share of the creative work and most of what Poole did was to render it out on CAD so the customer would have something to see and approve and the builders would have something to go off of. Plus, Poole could give old what's his name the dimensions to run on the CMC machines.

Just my 2 cents.

it was obvious Jr had a huge influence because he was making decisions of his own on design as they were building. I remember many episodes where he would tell rick exactly what he wanted while the tank was the project, he would try different things with the bars and fenders. He was much more of the design guy than Jason P

Now they got 2 bikes to get out in 4 weeks, should be interesting. If you seen his web tank you'll see quickly JR is more talented than some think

Pops no doubt has some great work ethics. Had a rough life and built up a nice shop. Even when the show started they were creating awesome bikes. Both deserve huge credit as it is a team effort. both wee necessary for success and both will continue on and probably do great.
