Any Interest in having an Avalanche1 Safety Course in Northern Illinois?

Andy, I like the Milwaukee idea. Lake Express can get me there quickly. It is more centrally located to get a bigger crowd. We can reserve a whole wing of a hotel and party like "Rock Stars" afterwards. Either will work. weekend looks better.

Milwaukee class a go

I have a meeting room upstairs at the Milwaukee Show on Saturday October 16th. The class will take place from 1pm-5pm. I arranged it for this time so people could attend the show before or after the class.
If we have enough interest, I will have a class in Chicago on October 14th in the evening from 6-10pm. I will hopefully have a location by the end of the weekend. I will post class content tonight. Thanks for all the interest. Mike Duffy

I am in for one of the classes. Waiting to see if you're doing it in Chicago or not. I would assume others are in the same boat. I live right in the middle of Milwaukee and Chicago so could go to either class.

I can go to either. Was hoping for a northern Illinois class but it does not make sense if you are not getting the response. I know of a few people who were/are planning on attending that do not frequent this forum. Have you advertised the class anywhere else?

Mike, I took your class at the Milwaukee snow show a couple years ago and would be interested in taking it again as a refresher, if offered in Chicago area, but what I'm really interested in is the "hands on" field class in Lake Geneva. Any word or definite dates on that yet?

I will get Chicago class details worked out after Hay Days. I will be at the BCA booth at Hay Days. BCA Booth location at Hay Days: West of Motorsports Freestyle Expo. North of drag race starting line by food court and beer tent. Booth SCI. Please stop by and say hi, should be a great event!

I've taken one of those course and they are great - learned recognition of avalanche danger conditions, avalanche types, some snow structure and testing, a little basic meteorology, avalance rescue- I'd do it again. It was really interesting and fun. You really respect those mean muthuhs after that. Even got a free ski pass out of it at Snowbird one trip just for being available for possible rescue in avalanche conditions following a heavy snowfall.

Great News! Just spoke to the manager at Grand Geneva Ski Resort in WI. Looks like we are a go for an on the snow rescue class in January. We'll do it on a weeknight 6-10pm and also have a session during the day 12-4. I'll be checking out the site when I'm in town for the Milwaukee snowmobile show in October. I will work out all details then. Prerequisite for this class is the four hour avalanche awareness, avoidance and rescue classroom session.
I'm glad this worked out. Mike Duffy

Ok, I have a location for Chicago on October 14th form 6-10pm. Meeting rooms are very expensive around the airport. Here is what I came up with:
Tooling and Manufacturing Association
1177 S. Dee Rd
Park Ridge, IL 60068

Just east of O'Hare. Has free parking.

Please email me if you can make it: duffyww1@aol.com

I need to get a minimum # of participants before signing the contract on the room. Thanks, Mike

I emaied a few days ago and got a confirmation back that I was in, hopefully more do the same. Cuzz, glad to hear you and a group are planning on going. Come on mountain riders get signed up, we want this thing to happen. I'm gonna call a couple of guys from Illinois that I've been to Snowies with and make sure they know this is going on.
