Our Set up
We have used a camper on our land for the past 10 years.
Setting the trailer:
-I highly recommend jacking the trailer onto CMU blocks, that takes the weight off of the axle springs. You can remove the tires and get them out of the sunlight so they do not dry rot.
-You may want to skirt the trailer, it will help keep the floor warmer
-Build a deck in front of the door(s), this will keep dirt out of the camper and give you a place to stand/sit and drink a beer.
Waste (Black & Grey):
-We use an outhouse, much easier and you don't have to worry about freeze ups in the tank. I do believe that states are starting to outlaw pit style outhouses.
-Grey water, we may or may not have a pipe with a 90 going into a 5 gallon bucket in stone that acts as a dry sump.
-Make sure you put RV anti Freeze in your drains to keep the traps from freezing and bursting
Water:
-We do not use the tank or water heater, the lines on campers are not well insulated and could freeze even with the furnace on.
-We heat our water on the stove.
-For the shower, we have a 5 gallon bucket with a 12 Volt sump pump that is routed to a shower head. Heat water, mix with cold and four guys can shower with 5 gallons of water.
Electric:
-We do not have power on our land (too much $$$ to bring it in) so we use 4 deep cycle batteries and run a generator to charge them.
-We changed out much of the lighting for LED lights.
-We installed a car stereo for news/weather/music
-We do use the generator when making coffee
Fridge:
- We yanked ours out and sold it on craigslist, we built shelves in its place for Storage
Beds:
- We ripped all of the beds out and built bunks with overhead storage. If we were to do it again we would build the storage and use high quality cots.
Flooring:
We pulled out the carpeting and laid LVT flooring, easier to clean and have rugs near the bunks to keep your feet warm
Propane:
-We extended the lines and switched to 100# LP tanks we make it a year on one tank
Mice/Rodents:
-To keep them out we use peppermint oil on cotton balls. Works great and keeps the trailer smelling great!
Hopefully this helps!
