Anybody been to Dubois, WY?

That's news to me? Getting out of lava to the trails can be all over the spectrum. They are constantly working at making it easier to get in anD out of. For the most part I ride the side of the road up to the road/trail that goes to Brookes lake lodge area. Then the trails are only used as a way point from there.

Must have been a rumor about lava then. I've stayed there in the past when Jardine owned it. The trail went right out the back door and was ungroomed about half way. Had been at Mckenzie Ranch last few times I was there. Group I ride with have a house rented from? Pinnacle Properties ? in the Lava Mtn area. Lots of 30 mile - 10 hr days of riding there.

Is there any places to eat between Togwotee and Lava on the CD trail. Many years ago a guide took us to a place to eat that a little off the CD trail, but I don't know where it was.

Trail riding out there is very scenic. Been there several times and enjoyed every Trip. My favorite area is Green River SW of Line Shack and Crooked Creek.

I go for the scenery, if I want to get stuck I can do that in the UP.

I have always stayed at Pinnacle Properties by Lava Mtn. Sometimes its a little low on Snow leaving the House.

Togwotee Lodge is a good place to stay.

If you don’t mind trailering to the snow each day it’s certainly possible to stay in Dubois. It’s not that far to places you can unload. The Super 8 has gotten mixed reviews here but when I’ve stayed there it has been fine – not fancy but fairly inexpensive (especially with my AARP rate :)) and includes standard motel breakfast.

Agree with Longtrack. Anytime I’ve ridden them, the trails SW of Crooked Creek have been excellent with minimal traffic. Regardless of where you ride, the real plus is the scenery. You could have days where the visibility requires you to ride “stake to stake” in the meadows but otherwise the views are awesome with lots of photo ops.

A lot of guys will recognize this trail shot south of Togwotee.

The ride along the pinnacles is cool. If the snow is fairly setup or lots of track you can get to a nice cliff out behind brooks lake lodge.
On the other side of the road, there is a trail that goes to top of Lava Mtn. There is a a weather station or something up there. That trail isn't groomed but should be fairly packed down. IIRC it's only a mile or two off the main trail.
I've never been all the way down to Crooked Creek, but inbetween CC and Lava Mtn lodge is some cool stuff.
I've never been all the way up to Togwotee lodge so I don't know what's all up there, but I bet it's good scenery.

I would not want to have to trailer once I'm there. Would like to ride right from the motel/hotel.

Crooked creek. Why drive so far (20-22 hours for me) then deal with trailering to save a buck. Discount vacations suck. Do it up right. It's a long haul out there. My areas of favorite riding is between Brooks and Tog. But plenty of trails around Crooked Creek if that's what you want. The senery is awsome. Make an effort to go to Austin Peak and or the top of Lava mtn. There is a way cool continental divide turn out there that a short track can do.
