I would recommend waiting to see what pans out weather wise this week. Last 4 days have been taking a hit on the snow we have. We currenlty have a winter storm watch in place which looks to be interesting. 12"+ possible....??? Will be a wet heavy snow by the looks of it right now. Possible LES later in the week, but, we'll have to wait & see.

The previous winter storm watch has been changed to a winter weather advisory, fancy term for rain mixed with snow, in this case, at least for the time being, more rain than snow. Mother Nature is a fickle mistress, temp by Friday suppose to hit near 40. Go Figure......

Looked like the track moved further west which allows more warm air in south of the low track. Luckily we have plentiful of time

Been snowing here in the cities since about 5:30 this morning. Coming down pretty good right now and supposed to last through the evening. People will be out in the ditches I would assume.

A good 4" of heavy wet snow on the ground so far in MW area. Still snowing as of 6pm.

Careful out there, it's heart attack snow.

Also extremely slick. Will be terrible in the A.M. All ice! Heard schools to close in Ironwood

Got a reliable source that sent a pic of Spooner, WI area last night. Solid 8" I'd say. Decent start considering the calendar hasn't flipped to December just yet!!!!

I have about 6" in the NE metro. Eastern MN and NW Wisco should be good riding in December if we get a little bit more snow and continued cold. Lots of swamp land up near Hinkley area though so need a good foot plus single digit temps.

Great story Indy! So cool! One of my favorites from "back in the day" was when 3 of us dropped off in Watersmeet, early December, to ride to Houghton, and then back the next day. Plenty of snow when we dropped off, at least 6-8 inches in Watersmeet, we rode north, arrived in Houghton that night, it was already getting warm. This was before the internet, before weather apps, you had to call and ask for snow conditions! We wake up that Saturday morning in beautiful downtown Houghton, and it was already 50 degrees or so! We ride back to Twin Lakes, and stop at Krupp's, had met Richard and Sandy the year before, and Richard says, all the snow south of Bruce Crossing has melted. We'll, fuck, now what? So, we gave Richard 80-100 bucks in gas money, to drive us down to Watersmeet to get the truck and trailer. We get back to Twin Lakes, which still had a good amount of snow, and Richard says, plenty of snow here, you guys should spend your day riding logging roads, we have cabins available tonight. DONE DEAL! It was great afternoon of riding untracked snow, and the start of a great friendship that has lasted 30 plus years! Not to mention the start of my off trail addiction! 😉

Great stories for the season opener. It was a little different when I started riding in the late '60s. Back then, even in Green Bay, we were well immersed in the mini-ice age (we didn't use the term 'Climate Change' then because the climate always changed) and the opener came when we had snow, what ever date that was. We typically had snow on the ground by Thanksgiving. My dad said we had to have at least 4" to ride; not to protect the sled but to protect the lawn! Most sleds back then had bogie wheel suspension and steel skis. You could ride them on grass all day with no worries about damage to skis or suspension components. Of course we knew about the UP but I'm not sure they had a trail system then. Even if they did, the sleds of that time would probably be stuck in the deep powder most of the time. With the interwebby not even a gleam in Al Gore's eye, we would never have dreamed of making the LONG DISTANCE phone call to find out how much snow that was in the UP!

Anyway, the opener back in the late '60s and early '70s consisted of filling the 5 gallon can with gas for about $1.50 for the 5 gallons and then dumping a cardboard can of 2 cycle oil in the can and mixing it real good with a yardstick. The get the funnel and fill the Skee-Horse with the mixed gas and ride 'round and 'round the 1.5 acres that was our yard. Until we burned up that 5 gallon can of gas. Me and my 2 brothers couldn't get enough of this and enjoyed the entire experience.
