arctic Cat Inc. today announced that it has entered into an agreement to transition itsn snowmobile engine manufacting from Suzuki Motor Corp. AC will begin manufacturing some of its won snowmobile engines for AC snowmobile engines in St. Cloud MN. after the 2014 model year. Currently Suzuki supplies all engines for AC snowmobiles. Suzuki will continue to supply the company with engine parts to service existing engines after the 2014 model year.
Commented AC's chairman and chief executive officer Christomper A. Twomey: "Suzuki has been an oustanding engine supply partner for more than 25 years and remains a significant shareholder in AC. However, we are changing our engine strategy in order to gain more control over our poducts, and enhance our ability to meet regulatory and perfomance requirements. This also will enable us to better utilize our current engine manufacturing capacity, resulting in petentially better cost."
Twomey added: "Our St. Cloud enine facility has been a great additon for the company since we began manufacturing our ATV engines there in 2007."
The 56,000 sq. ft. plant is located on 15 acres and currently employess 41 people. At this time, the company planse to use existing plant capacity and personnel during the transition. AC expects snowmobile engine production to begin in St. Cloud in fiscal 2015.

I know that Cat has been mfg their own 4 strokes for a few years now & they have been good motors. I am a bit sad to see them seperate from the Suzuki engines though, for me, they have been solid, on the flip side, I am glad that this will open additional job opportunities here in the good ole U.S of A! It will be interesting to see what their R & D has come up with for their 2 stroke line. I will still have green blood & will continue to be an AC loyalist, like John said, some of us Yoopers like da cats too!:D-Mezz.

Don't think you have anything to worry about Mezz. Yes the engines for the last while have been built by Suzuki but they were all designed by AC engineers. Suzuki was just the vendor. Much the same as Fuji used to build the Pol engines. Pol engineers designed those motors. Everything will be fine. Have to wonder about the coincidence that Pol goes South and AC comes home all within 2 months. Hmmmm.

All two stroke cat engines are suzzie engines. The 660 four stroke were suzzie engines too, but the Z-1 engine was collaboration effort, and ALL the ATV 4 strokes are American Made. Once the ATV sector took off for CAT with USA engines designed and made in the USA, the end to the suzzie engines was in sight.

Hopefully the USA power plants will be as reliable as the suzzie's have been for CAT. All about saving money, since it seems having to "in-house" the power plant design and build has to be a purse buster. Suzzie motors were extremely well designed and efficiently produced, but suzzie was making a profit building them, so now that profit should come into CAT pockets instead of suzzie pockets, at least in theory....time will tell the tale on that one.
