Bad Neighbor

My neighbor is driving me nuts, he lives right next door on the same side of the street. It started about 8 years ago when I moved here with my brother, this guy hated our dog. He always complained about the dog crapping in his yard and had pics to prove it was our dog, we worked all day and the dog was in the house and when we were home the dog was on a leash always. This guy would be walking up and down the road in front of our house with his camera taking pics of our cars, trucks, wheelers, and sleds. Last year I bought this house from my brother and things been kind of quiet for a while, til a couple months ago. I went to a snowmobile show and the girlfriend was at work, I get home and the arse of a neighbor had a party at his house and had 3 cars parked in my driveway. I called him up and very kindly asked him to get them out of my yard, he has the balls to tell me that my driveway is not my property and he was calling the city, I responded not very kind and said I was calling a tow truck. The cars were moved immediately, he comes strutting down my drive and wants to talk, I wanted to smash him but he is a sue crazy nut job. Now yesterday he calls the cops on the guy across the street for riding his lawn tractor with his grand daughter, he felt the child was in danger. I hate this guy, any good tips to make him crazy, or things that you have to deal with with your goofy neighbors.

List his house for sale with a realtor.
Or...just put a realtors sign in his front yard.......or yours.
Some people just want attention, Set up a shooting range in your back yard.

People like this are just looking to get a rise out of you. Don't play along, and you'll get the better of him. Plus, I'm betting he doesn't care if he is paying a lawyer to go to court, where as if you have to, it could drain you financially as well as mentally. If you need to, get a restraining order. That's pretty quick and easy to do. Seems like the guy is a nut case. Whatever you do, don't break laws. It's just another thing for him to go after you on. A nice stinky leaf/grass burning (that's legal) when the wind is blowing his way is always good. Make sure it's wet stuff. Put anything that would be an eyesore on the property line on his side, and let him stare at it. Build a huge burm between your properties....

I had 2 families like that where we lived before we moved here. The one I really avoided, they scared me. The other one parked his piece of crap collector car right on the property line. I was so sick pf seeing that hunk of junk that when I cut grass I made sure to make one side of the car green. He'd move it for a while, and then move it back, and I'd make the car green again. He never said anything about me blowing grass on the car. Eventually I just couldn't take livin in town any more and we moved to a nice place in the country with very good neighbors.

I have a guy at work with neighbors like that. Loud music til 4am, parties all the time, beer cans laying all over, junk everywhere.

I have been very fortunate. Have great neighbors. I was probly the bad neighbor once as I had someones dog taken away. The thing was a little ****zu and it would get off the deck and chase and try to bite kids. One day, mowing the yard, these kids chased it back home from up the street and as the went to try and hook it on the leash it lunged at the kid's face. That was it, I walked over and grabbed that little bastard and as I hooked him on the leash it slipped and bit me. Called the cops to have them come and get it. Dog wasn't treated well either, I yelled at the two kids as they were spraying wasp spray right at it while it was tied to a tree. They would chase it with sticks and everything. Wouldn't ya know it, they have another dog now but the kids are about 5 years older so from what I've seen they do treat it a little better.

The craig list idea is a good one or just move. No close neighbors for me I got state land on three sides of my property just critters and I shoot them.

I would be careful on what actions you take. In this day and age you never know what your getting yourself into. This person obviously has no life and his house is his only form of refuge. Although the annoyances you mention are irritating to say the least, It could be worse. A restraining order would be an option if you feel your family is in danger. I remember a few years ago a guy shot a kid for walking across his grass. Be nice to your neighbor even if he is a nutjob. It is hard to be mean to someone who says hello everyday and is friendly and considerate. Maybe you guys will hook up on the ride board next year!!!

Get yourself a smoker set up and keep doing hams, pork butts, ribs, home bacon ,sausage, chickens, turkeys fish etc. The guy will get so hungry that he will be nice or move!! State land worst than private.means you could have 2 or 3 hundred people lined up on the property line hunting, party, picknicking etc. and nothing you can do about it!

Yeah - my uncle's got one like that next to his famr now. He calls the DNR/cops for my uncle spreading manure, a cow getting out, noise for the rooster crowing in the morning. He's even told us that we can't hunt there. Even the cops are getting sick of this guy. Usually after he calls my uncle parks the manure spreader on the lot line and leaves the tractor idle in the morning when he goes to milk at 4.

I never had any problems with people picknicking, party, hunting, around my house on the state land they have 2,000+ acres to do that on no need to do it next to my house..20+ years and I would not trade it for a house with a neighbor next door.

Move. It sounds drastic, but it's the only way to truly 'win'. I had a horrible neighbor once. It all started w/ his blood hound that would bark/howl/whatever that sound is- for hours on end. I went over and nicely asked him to do something about the barking and it was fine. But it continued. My husband lit off some fireworks once and the wife didn't like it. Called the cops- went downhill from there. He did stuff to drive me nuts, we did it back. At the end of the day- it was just stressful. I was always wondering what he was up to. I was worried he was going to do something crazy to my dog (poison him, etc). There was no real way to 'win' the battle- except to go. That's not the only reason we moved- in fact, it was just an added bonus. But I now have fabulous neighbors and can't even begin to explain how much of a difference that makes in my daily life. Instead of my stomach turning as I approach my house after work- wondering what he's been up to (b/c of course he was home all day collecting disability) I now get excited to see a mini block party and can't wait to park the car and crack a beer to find out what everyone's been up to (especially now since the winter hibernation is over). Good luck.
For reference, I bought a hand held air horn, and when his dog would be outside barking, I'd go out on my deck and blast it. That seemed to give him the hint and the dog was usually brought inside afterwards. A random half stick explosion late at night really close to the property line was the icing on the cake. He actually called the cops on us and reported that my husband and I were fighting and that he had shot me (with a gun). Cops came to my house w/ guns drawn. I went ballistic and he got in trouble for making a false report. But that could have been extremely dangerous. To answer my door in my bathrobe and have a cop standing there w/ his gun in his hand and barking K9 was scary to say the least. By then, we had already sold our house and were moving in less than a month (thank God). Cops quickly realized his story was a bunch of BS when I answered the door fresh out of the shower in a robe and my husband was sleeping. They checked the history of BS calls/complaints between us and could see this was a sham. Anyway- Good luck! Crappy neighbors are the WORST!

There are some things that I am thinking of to really irritate this jerk of a neighbor, maybe he'll move. I have a propane smoker that i want to put in the driveway and fill it up with grass clippings and pine bows and just let it go all day.

As a kid we had a neighbor who's dogs would use our yard as their crapping station. No amount of verbal discussion helped one bit. So, my ole man set up a nice little used oil trap, and when the two white dogs strolled through the fence, they got a little surprise. They ran home, and were let in as always and ran all over their house with used motor oil dripping off them.

Needless to say, we never saw the dogs in our yard again.

Hey now, I’m one of them kind a neighbors… j/k
Been there done that. It’s easier to train oneself to ignore this kind of behavior than to expel the necessary energy to “Get them back”. Let karma take its course.

" You can pick you nieghbors but you can't pick your relatives" Maybe it is the other way around!!! Either play nice or move because it just isn't worth it. You know what you are up against better than all of us so figure out who is going to move first. I had to do this 5 years ago and I never felt better after it was done. For me the unfriendly nieghbor lived in the same house and the state called her moving a divorce (Yeh!!!!!!!!!!).

I had a neighbor that would not leash his roaming dog while all of the other nieghbors had pets and were respectful. He, the dog, would camp out at my house when my chessy was in "sweat" (kids thought that up instead of heat). I finally borrowed the neighbor boys paintball gun and got some pink paint balls. Now I know what you PETA people are thinking but I tested this gun and ammo out on myself at point blank range and only got a small welt on my thigh so I was not going to hurt this big lab. Plus I praticed so I could get a hind 1/4 from 40'. When the owner of the dog came to ask me why I was shooting his dog I simply told him that I was marking his dog so he would know where it had been since the city had a leash law and I wanted to give him proof of his dog's violations. My other neighbors liked it so much they ask to borrow the paint ball gun so they could get other colors!!! This guy was a real DB and moved shortly after. Unless you build that 10' fence around your property (wait, building codes only allow 6', Crap) you will have to live with it or move on!!!

Good Luck

We had a neighbor next door that thought his yard was a recycling center. They had several barking dogs, kids that taught me some new bad word combinations and a house that was held up by the junk that was leaning against it. One day he came over and said he had enough of us consistently complaining about him to the city and he was going to sell. I gave him a low ball offer and he took it. I tore the house down and I became the neighborhood hero.

I have a realy rich ahole behind me who complained about sled trailer in back yard, and told me I cant park it there. Which was parked there before he moved in. Also complained about my kids on swingset, telling them to shut up they are to loud at 6pm while he reading on his patio.
So I called him a ahole and if you don't like it move I was here first. A week later he had a 6'6" fence put up. Mighty nice of him to put up 200' of nice cedar stockade fence.
