Base gasket help

These things are really @#$&@(*@(*(# me off. They seem like they're superglued on, i spent 4 hours and got the base gaskets off both bottoms of the cylinders, and the pto side of the case. I am using this thing with a razor blade on the end but it's shaped like a putty knife and the razor blade is retractable. I put a few minor knicks into it and am wondering if I should put some sort of sealant on there with the base gasket?

Hmmm...took the "clean" razor blade way huh??? Shoulda used a die grinder with a scotch brite, then everything would be nice and smooth.

Threebond 1211 is what you want but I guess I don't know anything so take that with a grain of salt.

We use the copper base gasket sray...it is for high temp head and base gasket applications. You should have some in stock anyways. Spray onto both sides of your gasket.

I have so many different cleaners, lubes, etc. its unreal and I don't have many gasket sealants. I have this one tube of brown stuff but it dries harder than a rock. I hate buying that stuff, it gets expensive!

I'll go back to fleet farm (again) and check over both types.

so ur both wrong and i should just put some cardboard in there?

I use threebond on base gaskets of race motors and they don't come apart or leak into the cylinder. Full mods with bastard motors with gaskets cut to fit sometimes need a little extra goop to hold them tight.

I win races with them thats why you should use it.

i just googled some stuff and read 3 bond 1194 is better for base gaskets. don't see anything about the copper spray not being for non metal gaskets.

Will pick up some 3 bond, then scrape the rest of that gasket off, then hopefully she'll be running by tomorrow so i can go for one last ride.
