New again to John Dee, so just seeing this.
Up for 10 hour drive to ride, based in Chi-town, you really need to hit the Hatfield McCoy trails in West Virginia. You are 10 hours from Ashland resort and some truly amazing riding. Ashland was the favorite place on our trip, having direct access to the Indian Ridge, Pinnacle Creek, and Pocahontas Trail Systems. We also stayed in Logan WV and rode the BearWallow trails, which were probably the least favorite of the options. From Logan, we also rode the Little Coal River trails, and really enjoyed them while we were there. Not sure if that trail system is active, as there is no link on the official site.
There is an extensive system of non sanctioned trails, commonly referred to as the outlaw trails. We never had a chance to explore those options, but we did hear that they were even better than the posted HM trails.
