Speaking of that a local said the DNR stopped by his Moms farm and did a eagles nest survey and found dog and cat collars with owners names, he said it is better not to notify the owners.

I have'nt saw one yet but i know friends that have. There are always some kind of notice of dogs and cats missing at the grocery store or other places around Ironwood and makes you think that these things could be taking small pets as food.

Was it close to town or out east, or west of town got a camp there and curious where it was.

It was south of Watersmeet by the snowmobile crossing

People just need to remember their out there

I'm a forager of berries and mushrooms and never had a sighting but I am always aware they are out there, so I stay alert. Also I am a very very noisy forager :p

When I was 5 years old I was riding on the back of the sled behind my mom and my dad was leading. We were in Dale, WI and saw an entire pack of them, we stopped to watch them, and all of a sudden they stopped and stared at us. Needless to say we got the heck out of there!

So you must use US 2 to travel between Hurley and Ironwood........not Silver St....

I was out riding forest roads and trails around 107 and 3 and just a little north of there on 3 towards south end of bonds falls saw a big set of wolf tracks walking the trail. That was about January 1, would have loved to see it, but not to close.

I was just told by a friend who has a friend that lives in watersmeet that the dnr is going to give it to the Indian tribe in watersmeet to be mounted it was 165 lbs and 87" nose to tail. Will like to see it when it's done hope they put in the casino.

Glad to hear that thanks goofy600! I had hoped it would be on display somewhere in Watersmeet

What is funny as far as the denial by LEO that these animals are around is that I came across a warden yesterday from Great Lakes Indian Fish & Wildlife Commission in Odanah WI and when asked about this particular wolf incident near Watersmeet, he replied that "thats not a real incident and that particular picture was a hoax and had been posted several times over the last few years in more than a few states".

Why the denial of an obvious "real" picture or story?

It's real. I received the photo from the original post in email form straight from the source, thru several reliable sources. By the way, the photo is deceiving. The pooch is only 100lbs. While that is still a significant size, it is not HUGE by any means. The fine upstanding gentleman C.O. is just a tad on the shorter side of things. Here's another that makes it look not so big.
