Black River Falls, WI

When you go south of Black River Falls and get closer to Tomah, there was much less snow than Black River Falls north to Hatfield and Neillsville area. Snowing now, guessing a couple inches so far and just heard on TV that LaCrosse and Monroe Counties up to 6" so far this morning. Hopefully we all get more and trails get back to where they were.

I'd be interested in an update too as I'm looking for a day ride tomorrow or Friday if trails open. Thanks!

My Dad and I usually make a day trip and start from Millston at least once per year. We usually ride to the Mug and get lunch, and head back. If we can't get to Hatfield, what would be a good lunch stop? My dad is 78, so though we don't put on Monster miles, I'm just happy to ride with him. So a 60 mile loop is good enough.

Millston a possibility for this Saturday morning?

Thanks

I'm not getting excited about trails opening around here, I'm sure our club trails will not open. County trails are open but with the 2" of wet snow and now a mixed bag of precipitation this storm is a bust in Clark County....at least for now.

That's a bummer. Forcasted 6-9. Probably got 5 and 3 melted since the ground was not frozen.

I'd watch the snow pattern and see where to go. A trip up to Pray would be a good loop. There's a couple places there that server burgers and such. My hunch is in Hatfield you might be able to run along the road and cross the HWY K bridge to get to the Mug. Lets hope for good sledding weather.

Hey Mike! It was nice to meet you 2 weekends ago. That place we saw you at in Pray was cool. Sure was sad to see all that base go to waste. Jim

How did you guys make out in the BRF area?

If you were asking me, our trip to BRF was good. Drove up Friday evening. It's a 4 hour drive from Cedar Rapids, IA. Stayed in a VRBO house outside of BRF where we could jump right on the trail. Did a nice loop -> rode to Hatfield, Pray, Granton, Neillsville & the stopped back to Hatfield & ate pizza at The Mug. Pizza was good. Trails were all in good shape but of course that was before the big warm-up. I was amazed at how much snow they had piled up around there. It really is too bad most of it melted away. I would do it again if that area got pounded with snow.

Not barely enough to plow...it snowed but then alot of what we got melted during the day....maybe an 1-2" at most in Neillsville. I don't know what Black River Falls received.

If I have time tomorrow on my way to Neillsville I'll try to grab pictures along the way and post them. We have to hustle up there for a basketball tournament so I'll see what we have time wise.

I read that all Jackson and Clark County trails are closed until better snow conditions.

Here is an update for Clark County:

For Immediate Release
January 26th, 2017
Clark County Recreation Update
Marcus Aumann, Clark County Parks and Programs Manager
Telephone 715-743-5140

Effective Thursday January 26th 2017 at 3:00pm, all trails located at Levis Mound Recreational Area will open to all traffic including snowshoeing, biking and skiing.

Clark County ATV & Snowmobile Trails located on both Public and Private lands will remain closed for both ATV & Snowmobile traffic until the significant amount of water currently present freezes over and conditions improve.

Bruce Mound currently has a great base of snow and the recent warm weather has not been a bother to operations. We expect good conditions for the coming weekend. Our upcoming hours of operation are as followed.

Friday January 27th, 2017 5:00pm – 10:00pm
Saturday January 28th, 2017 10:00am – 4:00pm
Sunday January 29th, 2017 10:00am – 4:00pm

Please note that UTV’s are not allowed on the Clark County ATV Trail system during the winter months (November 1- May 14).

Clark County trails are subject to periodic closure; for updates on recent closures and/or openings please contact the Forestry and Parks Department at 715-743-5140, or visit the county website at www.co.clark.wi.us for more information on our trail system.

Stopped on the way home from Neillsville and grabbed a few pictures of a trail crossing highway 95 just south of town. Not a lot of snow in that area really, was suprised. 20170128_155212.jpg 20170128_155206.jpg 20170128_155140.jpg sorry about the turned photos, seems I can't find the rotate picture tool.

Heading to Hatfield for the Super Bowl weekend. How did this past weather event affect the trail conditions in the Black River Falls area? Do we bring the sleds or tipups?

Trails are closed in Jackson and Clark Counties....we received about 2" of fluffy snow. I don't see trails opening this week but if something changes, I will post it.

I'd concur, also check the ice conditions as I've heard locally of some ice breaking from the rain and melting snow last week causing weak ice.

You'll have to check the map but Jackson says that the East section might open friday and I know Monroe is grooming so that may be an option for you. Not sure if monroe is open though.

Just got done talking with our club president and he said Clark County trails are open or opening tomorrow and that our club trails will be open by the weekend as we are grooming. We received about 4-5" of new snow on Tuesday and more snow predicted for Saturday and potentially next Tues. and Wed. I haven't heard anything about Jackson Cty. trails but would guess they are opening, especially the East section.....get out while you can!
