You can go any direction and find good trail conditions. I Road that area on Monday before the storm and conditions were fair to good. They should be very good now. Jackson County has a Facebook page and they update it often.
Here's the link for that.

Lots of good stops and places to eat in Hatfield, Pray, Millston, Cataract, etc.

Jackson aok very piney and twisty trails. If you like wide sweepers ride north to Clark county. The downside is ATVs on trails with ya at same time ruined it for me.

Yep, agree all the way with whitedust, no ATV/UTV trails for us. Wheeled vehicles are the abomination of groomed snowmobile trails! We just don't go there!

Ho chunk casino has trail access. Decent buffet. I hate that section of trail thou. Very twisty, and doubles back. Often looks like the trees get hit constantly and sled parts on side of trail. We've eaten at the Denny's across from the Kwik Trip in Black River Falls. We park the sleds in the back of the Day's Inn, and walk across the street.

I love Clark county late on Sundays. They're usually out grooming and everyone has gone home. There's a nice bowling alley in Neilsville with trail access that has great food. I can't remember the name, but Whitehorse probably knows it's by the Kwik Trip in town. Not all of Clark is allowed to be ridden by ATVs, I thought it was just the county forest areas?

Strike Time Lanes.
Correct Atvs are allowed only in the county forest and no UTVs. I believe Jackson now allows UTVs.

No thanks! No ATV areas for us. Been there, done that, it SUCKS! We don't spend our money, or time coming to Wis. to ride mashed potatoes.

Yep! Just as I told ya. Love that area, but no more. Quite going anywhere they let wheels on the snowmobile trails. We don't take our ATV/UTV's to those places either. Else where gets all our $$$.

Did not know Jackson Co. started letting wheels on the snowmobile trails. We had plans of going there today but plans changed. I am sure glad we did not go. When did they start doing this ?

Idk late 90s or so steadily got worse after 2000 like Abe said we got turned off by more and more ATVs so stopped going there 2003 or so never been back and won’t go back until they band wheels in the winter season. Crying shame we had many good times with family and just the guys in both Jackson and Clark.

Same with us whitedust! It's a shame as it is such a nice area. So, no more mashed potato trails for us, no more of our $$$ for the area! We stay N/S/W/E of that area now! This is not what they are collecting trail permit money for!

From Jackson County Parks and Trails this morning:

"After careful consideration and discussion with internal staff and law enforcement, we have decided to suspend the use of UTV's for the remainder of the season. The damage done over the weekend is too dangerous to the other users of the trail, and grooming the trails is pointless. We will be permanently reevaluating use of UTVs in the winter which may require banning their use when trails are snow covered."

Go to their Facebook page and get updated info and pics of what the UTV's did to the trails.....hopefully they got the hint and hopefully they ban ATV use in the future. Great trail system if used and managed correctly!

We will wait and see what they do. We won't be back there, or anywhere else that allows this, until there is a "PERMANENT BAN OF ALL WHEELED VEHICLES ON SNOWMOBILE TRAILS"! Excluding emergency situations. It frosts my butt to pay for Wis snowmobile trail permits to have this issue!

This has been going on for way too many, many years! They just now realize what the trail conditions really are from allowing these wheeled vehicles? Yeah, well, good luck selling that BS! What a fool excuse! Any area that allows this wheeled vehicle traffic on the snowmobile trails should receive absolutely no money/funds from the Wis Snowmobile Trail fund, period! None, no $$$! That would fix this issue once and for all! Money can, and will fix this, get it done!

It is a personal goal of mine to ride every county of WI (excluding reservations). At the opportunity to knock off some of these counties in this area, I was actually considering going there (Black River Falls) the weekend of 3/1. Then they made this announcement but it is only for UTVs. It sounds like ATVs can still ride? I think I will take what I know with trails elsewhere and not take my chance just at the hope of riding this county. Are ATVs/UTVs allowed in Trempealeau, Eau Claire, and Clark Counties?

There are some that say if you can't ride a trail like that pictured above, then you shouldn't be on a sled. Every now and then you do come across something like this and it sucks. You catch a ski in that at the wrong angle at even a slower trail speed, and you and your sled will be damaged. Not worth it. I'll go where I know the trails are better maintained. I'll get to this area eventually, on say maybe a Tuesday after a grooming in some other year.

Same for Clark but trails are wider than Jackson but still lots of ATVs. As someone else said there can be large packs just like sleds but ATVs hold their place don’t let sleds pass. The snowdust ATVs kick up is incredible on hardpak. I think leo will have to write tickets if they’re serious about keeping ATVs off those trails in snow they have had access for many years. Jackson and Clark have lots of ATV use and revenue snowmobiles don’t represent much revenue for them anymore. Things have changed with low snow years.
