I feel the socks you wear are nearly as important as the boots. Anyone wearing cotton socks are just asking for cold feet, no matter the boots. Synthetic will not absorb the moisture from your feet nearly as much.

Agree with that! I wear Carhartt "Force" socks year around, feet always dry.

The baffin lightning boot is visually very similar to the FXR boot, shown above, only is rated at -94 rather than FXR's-40....do a search. baffin are available from many web sites. it looks like many larger sizes are sold out for the year. baffin makes a few models in the -70 and -94 ratings. also see 'snow monster' model. try zappos.com gotta look around, good luck

I have the FXR Helium Lite BOA and love it. Have never been cold. I might not wear socks when shoveling or snow blowing or just working in the yard tromping through snow. Love the BOA.
