Bummed out

Why do all these snow events start out on the big side? and then the day before they downsize them to a little snow if your lucky, bummed out, I guess why forecast that far out, it gets our hopes up and then bam, sorry about your luck, just venting sorry.

Ditto, and that's why I say I'll wait and look out my window, just yesterday some areas were supposed to see upwards to a foot of snow, just goes to show no matter how advanced the technology you still cant predict the weather or make plans around a weather forecast, and nothing bad against the weather people they can only go by the data given and I wouldn't want their job.

Best thing I've done over the years, is to never get excited about a forecast if it's out past 2-3 days.

I even left my clutches in pieces and some other little things to do to the sled thinking that would make it snow. Even that didn't work... MI trail pass has been on my fridge for 6 weeks now...

Canadian trail passes are over $300 per season and this is what their trail system looks like today. You CANNOT ride on a red listed trail even if there is 3 feet of snow.

But its hard not to get excited when you love the white gold. I would like it better if they start off on the shy side of things and then can blow it up the day before , instead of wow look, big storm, Oh never mind it fizzled out

I always try to remind myself, that when I have plans in the summer, with the forecast calling for rain 3-4 days out, I in no way change my plans thinking it's actually going to rain in 3-4 days. lol

I have learned over the years as well that you can't trust anything out past 3 days. So, though in the back of my mind I am secretly rooting for the "big storm" coming, I am really just waiting until 2-3 days before and then I will start taking some stock into what they are saying.
Being from Chicago, when they say a storm is coming, and they say it 3 days in a row, there is a good chance something is coming.
Looks like John's prediction is going to happen, about 50% less and titch South (I think he alluded to both of those possibilities)
Bottom line, repeat info without much change 2-3 days prior, usually will happen. Everything else is smoke and mirrors:)

I was sitting in my room in the UP on Monday night reading an article on the big snow coming to my area of Minnesota. The news stated we would get 14”, I looked at my buddy and said we will be lucky to get 2-4”. I plan on taking 3-4 trips a winter to ride and any time I can ride around home is just a bonus. Unfortunately we can not count on good snow in most of Minnesota anymore so I try not to get too excited. I was however hoping both northern Minnesota and Wisconsin would get blasted so it would spread out traffic as the Keweenaw was really busy this week for weekday riding.

I don't know how you guys manage without lake effect. Lake effect snow is so important to sledding in Michigan.

Thousands of geese are flying around in formation near my house in the Burbs of Chicago today. Birds don't lie.

I learned a long time ago not to get too frustrated about the weather. There's really nothing you can do about it. I also stopped counting December as part of the season. Between the hunting seasons, lack of snow, and holiday responsibilities, December is basically shot every year. Around here it's really January and February and some of March.

I unhooked the plow off my commander tonight and put it in the corner of the shop. That will make it snow! Talk about a frustrating start to winter! Maybe John will chime in any big storms on the horizon?????? Give us some hope in the Midwest John!!

Haha, I don’t manage, I travel to the UP to ride. I will be back up the second week of January and again the last week. But the last one I think we are heading back over in the Munising, Grand Marais, Paradise area.

I take what the weather guys says 24 hours out and cut that amount in 1/2.... then I cut the 1/2 in 1/2 again and that's what I go by..... works out more times than not. So if weather guys say 12inches, it really means 3 inches maybe.

On the local news this morning they are "still keeping and eye on this approaching low" "stay tuned for when we can expect the snow and who will get the heaviest" so I watched......thinking and hoping that this thing redeveloped....someone tell me when 2" became "heaviest" snow. Heaviest yes out of the dusting we are supposed to get out of this once massive snow event.

This is one of the bigger flops! From 12” to nothing...
This one hits hard emotionally as so many were amped up for plans with family and friends in the north woods for the holidays.
