Cable/Hayward area conditions?

I've been riding the Hayward area the last two days. Grooming starting today and most of the trails that don't cross major swamps had been groomed. I ran into several other groups today and everyone was surprised by how good the riding was all things considered. The only negative is that the lakes are not ready yet. Hopefully the next few nights take care of that but only time will tell.

If the area receives the 4-8" being called for tomorrow night then the trails have the potential to be great. As I am sure you are aware, these are early season conditions and some trees or limbs are hanging over the trails because of the heavy wet snow. With each passing day the trails are getting better and better thanks to the clubs out grooming.

Looks like the "storm" is going to miss us. 2-4" for us now. This sucks!! If we could get 8" things would be great up here!

Updates on flowage area

Just checking in on conditions in and around Hayward. I am guessing snow is needed? Is the flowage marked? Allegedly trip planned for next week and its decision time.

Yes we need snow, and no the flowage along with all lakes are not marked. Maybe next weekend after the cold spell coming. They downgraded the snow for tonight, it was at 2-4" yesterday and now 1" with freezing rain and rain for Thursday.

Moose lake is marked and they are talking about marking the flow age tomorrow. I'm here now and have run several of the lakes tonight including the flowage. Currently at Deerfoot. Also crossed Spider lake, lost land and tiger cat flowage. Very limited slush if any on the lakes we crossed.

Chippewa flowage is staked. Rode some of it today. Rode from Lakewoods on trail 8,jumped over to 63 to stop at Seely then south and back onto 8 over to 31. Took that south to 30, past casino east of hayward, then trail 3/9 to flowage and Pats Landing. Left the flowage on trail 3 past DunRover lodge and up to 21 Louis Landing. Then north on 21 and then stayed on fire road 203 back to trail 8 and then back to Lakewoods. Trail 5 south of Louis Landing was great. Rode down it 10 miles than back up. Trails were good to great. We were first on many of them with the fresh 3 inches today. Conditions probably changed quick in high traffic areas. Glad we didn't cancel trip. Namakagon is not marked. We stayed off of it. Plenty of places to ride.

looking at making a trip this weekend to this area, hows it looking? They going to be able to mark the lakes with this cold weather we are getting? And does anyone have any other sources I could use to find reports on the Cable/Hayward area?

My group rode this past weekend. Conditions are good to very good from Hayward north and northeast. Trail 8 got regular grooming and was a real pleasure to ride. We did 120-150 miles per day. Some trails were rough by Saturday night, but the groomers did their magic and we had a great ride Sunday. Go for it!

Got a place booked for this weekend. Things still looking good in the area? Got a place on Lake Placid, is that marked yet or is there plans to mark it?
