Under 11000 miles blew piston on pto side. Rebuilt completly, crank, pistons, seals., carb boots. about 100 miles blew the same piston. Melt down on exhaust side ( cold burn?) Could coils or cdi cause this? Carbs cleaned, oil pump primed at rebuild. Talked to a buddy who is Polaris mechanic said he's got one in the shop doing the same thing, same piston. Said he's built hundreds of these 600 triple over the years and this is the first time he had this problem. Any one else have this problem ?, and what did you find that caused it? Any help much appreciated. Thanks

This is NOT that uncommon with the triple.

It sounds like the cylinder went lean....

There are a bunch of things that could cause this, including boot leak, plugged carb, poor fuel, faulty oiler.

Time to go down thru the sled from fuel delivery, timing, seals, carbs, even plug wires and oil pump.

Make sure the crank is in phase and you don't have out of round cylinders. Could be with that many miles on it. Was their coolant in the cylinder?

Mono block tripple correct? It's been awhile and I haven't done many old Polaris engines. Check everything listed is correct. My usual question is "Did you pressure test the motor before you took it apart"? If you didn't you have to assume that any of your seals could have caused a burn down.
