Some of you may or may not know about me restoring my first car. Got it when I was 15. 1975 Monte Carlo. Well we had our local car show saturday and she took first place!! About 30 cars in attendance. Guess hard work pays off. IMG_20150620_143640466_HDR.jpg IMG_20150620_152634117_HDR.jpg IMG_20150620_152700261_HDR.jpg

Ya I had a guy with an original 1969 or 70 Chrysler 300 4 door parked a couple spots down from me. He was bragging how long his car was.... He said he had a couple feet on everything at the show. I told him no way. I said I bet I am within 6 inches. Finally some guy walked by with a tape measure on his hip and we settled it right there. 1975 Monte Carlo 18' 3" 1970 Chrysler 300 18' 8". So five inches. Nobody could believe that my car was almost as much of a boat as that 300. Those body lines on the Monte really hide the size. Sure is a lot of fun to drive. I remember cashing in my 50 cent piece collection because I was that broke but never thought of selling my Monte.

First Place! - Well deserved. That is one fine street machine.

Also, congrats on keeping the Monte through some tough times when it would have been tempting to take the cash. Many (including me) couldn't pull that off. I wonder how many of us out there wish we still had the cars of our youth.

Nice! Don't see to many of that era Monte Carlo's, most turned into stock cars.

Tell me about it. I had to try and find trim pieces for it. Next to impossible.... or financially impossible.... Nothing personal sweep just that I see lots of new cars. Nowadays things are meant to throw away. back then there was pride in what was built. Wish I would have grown up back then....

I agree that more pride was taken in the building of cars in the early 70's.
But i would not agree that today's cars are throw aways, thanks to improvements in oil, filters, bearings, etc. many cars/trucks with 200 and 300K miles still out running and being bought and sold. My kids Saturn is ovet 265, he neglects maint. Drives it hard, no warm up in winter ect. No tuneup on well over 100K still starts, runs, drives okay. When I was looking to buy my first car, didn't even look at anything nearing 100K, or over 10 years old. It was past life expectancy. Unless you needed $100 winter beater.

tell me about it makes me sick to think of all the iron I wrecked in my youth.
70s mussel was cheep in the mid 80s.

My 76 Nova lasted 4 days in 1981, drove it into a ditch, just east of Rapid River Mi. On US 2, That would have been okay, but there was a driveway built across ditch, launched it something like 100 feet. Wish I'd of stayed home that night, but was letting my Johnson do the thinking for me.

[QUOTE I wonder how many of us out there wish we still had the cars of our youth.[/QUOTE]

I think that would be most of us... mine was a 74 Mercury Comet GT with L50's on the rear with Air Shocks which caused it to ride like a lumber wagon. Dad thought I was nuts, I thought it looked cool. The color was one of those ugly 70's shade of Olive Green with black rally striping. I drove that thing until the fenders rusted off.

Well done, what a sweet ride! Would like to see a pic of the front end, I remember those cars from my high school years. They were popular back then and we all, thought they were pretty cool. Congrats!
