So if I don't use what Polaris recommends in chain cases, would it void my warranty if I choose to use something else, on a side note, what do these new sleds come with for fluid in the case?
My dealer says, yes warrenty will be void if you use anything but synthetic chain case oil while under warranty. So how much savings is there between synthetic chain case oil and ATF? One beer or so? how much oil we talking here 3/4 of a pint? This is insane.

That's completely irrelevant. If it wasn't for insanity there would only be about half the threads on JD that there are now!:D
Very true! I did a price breakdown on Amsoil Chaincase oil to be $13.20 a qt. (2-16oz. bottles) and Amsoil ATF at $9.80 a qt., so for $3.40 savings (cost of a tall draft beer) is it worth it? the 32oz. will take care of 3 sleds. now you are saving $1.13 per sled. A small frys at Mickie Dee's, wohoo!!!

Chain case lube choices and injection oil choices all bring the same results.... different strokes for different folks. Like I say, it's not Rocket Sience, all your doing is keeping 2 sprockets and a chain wet with oil:p

But you also do not want the oil to foam. so it is a little more into it than can I just use 10w-40 quaker state high detergent and be happy.

This discussion is a little like, "what kind of oil to use in your oil can...to lubricate your bike chain?"

A more appropriate question is, what oil would NOT work!

As RevKev says, not much going on here....and as those who have responded with nearly everything put in a bottle....it all works.

I would like to be a fly on the wall when you have a failure in the chain case and the dealer denies warranty because you didn't use "HIS OIL".....

BTW prolly should NOT use snake oil.....but even there I am just guessing.

Into the chaincase....go to shelf....kmart oil....fine! End of story....years of no failures says it all. Inside engine...whole different ball game!

Keeping your chain tight and case full of fresh lube is the important part. Most after market chain case oils are a gear oil based lube which is why they typically have a GL-5 rating on the bottle even though it's not listed like a gear oil with a multi weight rating. ATF is thinner but that can be both bad and good depending on your riding style. I believe that Synthetic gear oil is what the factory oil is, at least from Polaris.

poo wants the synthetic because it remains a constant viscousity with variing temps. I talked to a few oil experts since this has started. they all say pretty much anything non foaming and non corrosive in the oil line will work. 90W Gear lube gets way to thick in cold conditions. Idea is to keep chain and gears lubed without building pressure in the chain case.

You can still buy Polaris syn. Chaincase oil in quart size for 12 dollars and change. Much cheaper than the other brands.

Thank you. chocolate syrup was an idea, $2.89 for 12 oz. Poo takes 11 to 12 oz. so I have one bottle that size from Poo and refill it from a 32 oz. poo synthetic then it is measured out. I change it 1 time per year.
