And yet another snowmobiler that thinks we cant survive up here without there presence!....Cheese and rice? I think NOT I myself happen to own a business here and I choose to be here in the winter and have been for 22 long yrs. now. I have a very good job in the off season and yet I choose to do this as I enjoy the people and the sport. BUT I dont ever enjoy the threads where some think we cant survive up here without there input!! Remember this... Bergland was here LONG before snowmobiles existed and will be here LONG after they are gone! AND further more if the trend continues that very end may come sooner than most think!

Thanks for adding even more uneeded emotion to the topic.
My first sentance wasn't a threat just a commentary on ppl whining much ado about nothing.
FCS read the OP's thread title...is that NOT disturbing and overly emotoional? ...."Close down Bergland"?...LOL ...realy?...is THAT what you want to happen?
If so please tell me of the trials and tribulations sledders have caused you to suffer over your 22 years in Bergland.

I love these small towns and relish the fact that they still exist....largely due to tourism.

i just can't understand why you locals think we come up there and get our jollys by following a well worn track already establised and very well LEGAL!
If the track disturbs the welfare of the locals PLEASE put up the stinken caution tape to reroute the uneducated that is simply trying to get from point a to point b in your highway widespots.

"Close down Bergland"

Mr. AllPolaris,
I was one of the guys in the group that you stopped to yell at. We've stayed at Becky's Sawdust Acres for several years on our annual trip to Bergland, and that is the route that has always been taken to the trail. Dan, the guy that you were yelling at, did actually speak with a DNR officer/Police officer locally in the area several years ago and was advised that it was perfectly fine to take the far roadside just North from the Mobil station to access the trail. Here in MN road ditches are fair game. Now I can't say if laws/rules have changed since he asked the officer, and we will be looking into it, as we are all club members and do actively support our sport. The Bergland town trail is almost always miserable and runs down an often bare street very near the Bergland Bar. Also, that means that we'd cross M-28 a total of 4 times to get gas and then head out of town. The way we've done it up to now, we haven't crossed M-28 in Bergland, the Hwy 64 running to White Pine has a fraction of the traffic that m28 does. In our club, when we route trails, we always try to keep road crossings to a minimum, as there's plenty of opportunities for things to go wrong at a road crossing. Now there's absolutely no doubt in my mind that you parking mostly still in the traffic lane and getting out and yelling at us, causing a scene created more of an unsafe situation than 7 sleds slowly riding in single file for a quarter mile in the far right shoulder of the road. We likely will be looking for a different place to stay from here on out, not because of this, but just looking for something different.

A big X2 ...Tourism is everything UP here. This stupid topic comes up every year. Bergland is just plain busy with m28 and sledders. 4 weeks left people. Lets try to get along and stop bickering about the sledders who save up so much just to spend it all in the up.

then by all means shut it down. it is your town and your people right to do so. but in the mean time call the local club and ask them to mark a clear trail every 20 feet if needed **** ticker tape if needed.
that is what we have to do in situations when home owners get pissy pants about riders coming to close to there homes when on there way to there neighbors buisnesses to spend tens of thousands of dollars a season.
in fact bar owners station owners often volunteer time or cash to get it done to keep neighbors happy so they can keep food on there family's table. I am sure no businesses would be affected or shut down completely if the town shut down to sleds LMFAO .
coming on a site that is 80% hard core guys who know the score will do nothing but fuel the appoints fire. call the club end of story

Maybe your in the wrong business, you had a thread a couple years back complaining about sledders. Try not to resent tourist that come to your town and spend money. Not all follow the rules that's a given but maybe through better signage and communication at the local watering holes and motels the problems can get fixed. Tom at the BBB always posts concerns and it works. I would think a person in your business or your community sees the benefits of having money spent in town outweighing this problem. Anyways is march now, traffic will dramatically be reduced

Don't get on the lake and follow that well worn track to Hoop n' Holler either. Especially if there's a "Fishing Shack" alongside it.
