Clutching Sleds for the Big Horns

I'm taking two sleds out west at Spring Break and I'm not planning on re-clutching them. Do you think we will be ok? Most of our riding will be trail riding and some meadow playing. Nothing hardcore and we will not be running up steep stuff. The sleds I'm taking are:

2014 Yamaha Viper RTX 137"
2013 SkiDoo 1200 Renegade Adrenaline 137"

My son and I are not hardcore riders. We enjoy trails and messing around on the lake. We were out west two years ago but we rented mountain sleds. We had the chance to run chutes and neither of us really enjoyed it. I'm old and my son is pretty conservative.

Thanks for your thoughts.

I posted above 7 to 10

Elevations range from 5,000 feet (1,500 m) along the sagebrush and grass-covered lowlands at the foot of the mountains, to 13,189 feet (4,020 m) on top of Cloud Peak, the highest point in the Big Horn Mountains.

Ya never know just thought I'd ask! You're already going to lose almost 1/4 power due to elevation plus if you don't reclutch you'll be down 1000 RPM. I wouldn't think about driving 20+ hrs in the truck to ride a sled like that.

Clutch Weights

Thanks for the info. I will have to look into re-clutching them both before you go. Any suggestions on weight for those two machines? I was told the Ski Doo is a little harder to re-clutch than the Yamaha. I have had the Yamaha clutch off a few times to fix an over revving issue it had so that one should be easy to do.

Thanks again!

I have taken my 1200 to the Black Hills and it is fine. Burgess Jct is around 8000 and that should be your target. I would redo my 1200 at 8000 and I think you will need Ramps (6) and a Spring in the Drive when I checked the Spec Sheet.

High Altitude Spec Sheets are available on the ST Boni Motorsports web site.

I would NOT go to Burgess Jct without making some changes on a 1200 Doo, but that's me.

What bugs me is I go there all the time with my ATV and the Clutch set up is close to a Snowmobile and the ATV works fine.

2013 1200 doo parts 6000-10000 ft

yel/red spring 417-223-751 Drive Clutch

6 739 Ramps 417-223-828

That's it for parts, the driven stays the same as long as you have the 344 Spring in it.
