Not a lot of traffic right now in the U.P. and conditions are top notch as of this morning! Some fresh white gold has things whipped into shape nicely and it is 9 degrees out.
I was here riding the past three days and can support the following;
1. Don't go to "High Rock Bay", there is a water crossing via ravine.
2. We rode 17 north from Houghton and was perfect to it's connection to trail 3 North near Calumet.
3. Trail 3 North from Calumet to Trail 151 towards Eagle River, MI then onto Trail 130 were perfect.
4. Intersection of trail 130 and Trail 3 north via Brockway Mtn. and into Copper Harbor was perfect.
5. Trail 134 south out of Copper Harbor to the intersection of Trail 132 was perfect (avoid the dead end trail that goes to High Rock Bay, stay right or south if you have GPS).
5. Trail 132 south where it departs trail 134 to Lac La Belle was perfect, May I suggest eating at Bear Belly and maybe gas too? One of the best food stops north of Houghton, chili is a 9+.
SOUTH OF THE BRIDGE REPORT.
1. Trail 3 south from Houghton to Krupps was perfect.
2. Trail 3 south from Krupps to 12 east was perfect.
3. Trail 12 East from Trail 3 to Rosseau Bar was ok, wet areas that are frozen but not groomed that great (this is were the water holes "were" they are now filled on now).
4. Trail 12 west from Roussea bar to the 109 connector and on to Sidnaw was perfect. Eat and get gas at Sidnaw Station if you like.
5. Trail 8 West to Trail 107 South was perfect.
6. A short piece of 150 west and onto 3 north was perfect.
7. Trail 8 West from Trail 3 through Bruce Crossing to the connection with 3 North was perfect.
8. Trail 3 North through Rockland, Mass City and on back up to Houghton was perfect.
Perfect to me means tons of snow, riding mid-week to avoid bumps and low traffic.
Lots of traffic will mean lots of bumps, get out as early as you can to avoid the bums.
