Most of us on here know Indy from his posts etc., and I just want to make sure what he posted on another thread is seen by more people. I'm stretching the rules a bit by putting it under Misc, but I can ask for forgiveness later.

Indy 500

"Just thought I'd give you guys an update! I got offered the apprenticeship today. Will start working full time the day I graduate. When next fall rolls around I will be going to school once every other week for 8 hours and working full time in between. Out of the 5 of us youngsters I was the only one offered an apprenticeship. I can't wait, very excited to keep learning, can't get any better than making an aluminum block look like chrome!"

I've always been a big fan of Indy's and wish more of his generation were like him! His politics will correct in time. Maybe as early as next year when he sees the taxes he pays. ;)

Seriously though Indy, you should be very proud and I'm happy for you. It doesn't surprise me you would be their choice out of 5 guys. Congrats and best of luck to you! I hope this won't cut into your sledding time. :)

Thanks everybody! I'm really excited to get started. I have another month and a half before I get moved to the machines full time. We call it a "youth apprenticeship" where they hired 5 of us high school seniors to work in the morning or afternoon (our choice). We spend 3 months in inspection, 3 months in the tool room, and 3 months on the machines (Bridgeport- a manual Vertical Mill) my last month out of the 3 was spent running a Mazak VTC16 (CNC Vertical Mill), no new sled in the future, Just got my IQ and I enjoy having my stuff paid off, otherwise I wouldn't be able to enjoy riding the yoop every weekend trying to make payments on a toy! Could really use a new truck, I have to stick money into mine a few times a month, kind of getting old real quick. At least since I bought it cheap as a fixer upper I can sell it and still make a profit. There's a Mint Duramax southern truck for sale downtown. Really tempting. Thinking about picking up a buddys IQR blown up for cheap and putting my 700 in it for a nice summer project. No yamaha's in the near future! :)

Also, to HIGHLANDER, CNC machining

Way to go Indy, sounds like you may have an idea about this, but the most important thing you can do is have a job that you enjoy and be satisfied with the life it allow you to live. Looks like your off to a good start on that and keep up that money to buy the toys, vs the money to use the toys mentality. There are a lot of people out there with big houses that are empty, or expensive toys that don't get used a lot. Good luck!

Congrats Indy. The path you've chosen can take you many places. Just try and remember not to get sucked into the doldrums of running a machine for a living. Keep your wheels moving and keep advancing your education. You'll go places!

Congrats Indy! Hard work pays off and it will pay tenfold in your future. Stay on the cash plan for trucks and toys and don't get caught up in the credit world. I think you will do just fine.
