Disrespect To Our Landowners

The thing is when you ride off trail there's a 99% chance at some point in the day you were trespassing. Now it's affecting the trails, plus I've seen groups of boondockers who don't think they need trail permits because "why? I don't ride on the trail?" It's a mess, I idea how to fix it so we can still ride everywhere. It seems Twin Lakes seems to be off trail ground zero and landowners have taken notice.

It's not a popular idea but sleds need to have bigger registration numbers on them. No way to catch anyone otherwise

When a landowner gives permission to allow the trail to cross their yard it doesn't take too many brains to know your trespassing if you are in their driveway & yard beyond the numerous signs posted to "stay on trail"

I don't think it has anything to do with media.

It is just the lack of respect people seem to have for other people and their property.
I would throw in a lack of common sense as well.

I agree with the second part of your comment, but the media not having anything to do with it?? From the sled manufacturer's ads to all the videos that are marketed to the sled rags emphasis on crossover and off trail sleds, these influences play a very large part in the trespassing issue. All these media outlets need to realize that if they don't stress the importance staying on trail and off lands that are not legally accessible they'll eventually be hurting they're bottom line and that's when they'll see they should have done more.

It is the videos and pictures, the progress of mountain and crossover sleds, and the lack of respect. If you see ANY sign saying to stay on the trail you abide by it, if you see a no trespassing sign you respect it, if you pop out near someone's house you immediately turn around and get the **** out of there. I started riding the bush in 2006/2007 and it is pretty sad to see the lack of respect people have for private property. I remember a couple of years ago we were at Krupp's and some guys came down the road heading towards to Mini-mart and cutting across people's front yards because there was untouched snow.

If you don't know where to go, DON'T GO. If you don't know the land or at least have a plat book, DON'T GO. If it says no trespassing or has a no snowmobiles sign, DON'T GO.

I don't blame the sleds because they are capable of off-trail riding or the image they portray, its still the disrespectful a-hole driving them to blame. Its horrible to think but I'm sure we are going to hear about more boobie traps.

+1 on this! Simple and to the point. Well said.
I have a gas line road going through our property, it gated with fencing and no trespassing signs. We have people mow down trees to get around. once on the property we have ATV trails but they can't even stay on those, they just drive through the woods over saplings any ware they like. It makes me just a little PI$$ED.

Exactly don't blame the tool, blame the person in control of it. The snowmobile wouldn't trespass and tear things up without the meat-head on the seat.

Sorry, blaming the media is BS. Yes, mfg's may use photos or the like to sell the product but it is the person buying/driving the machine that makes the decisions. It's not like they have a headline for the UP that says, 'Come One, Come All, Drive Where You Want.'

I hate to use this as an example and in no way will argue on this particular thread about this but it works the same way. Guns don't kill people, people kill people, it's that simple. The person who bought/used it is the one that makes the machine work and do as they want.

I was up last week in thought how great would it be to head down what I assume are fire lanes or roads that cross the trail. I did not because I did not know if this was a private road without knowing where I was and if it was puplic of private land I stayed where I should on the trail.
I am sure many people know they are tresspassings and others just don't know and for thoughs people you need to get a GPS a plot map and permission if you go off trail just like hunting.
Please be respectful no one wants to have there property damaged

Here here...same thing as guns don't kill people just the person in control of it.
Not meaning to turn this into a gun debate either!!!

Its too bad this is a problem, lack of common sense and courtesy to others property. I know it WOULDN'T fix the problem but I would like to see significant and steep fines for anyone caught trespassing, of course this would mean cameras and/or more DNR patrols.

BTW, with the media are you telling me when I drink a beer hot women don't instantly come around? I guess I want a refund!

What harm would be done by going down a road not plowed or posted???

We road all last weekend utilizing logging roads. The few sleds that we ran into while doing so were all local guys.

Additionally, for it to be unlawful trespassing, the land has to be posted according to local laws. In MN if its not agricultural land that means posted at all corners, access points, and every 300ft.

What harm would be done...? your TRESPASSING if you are on private land and don't have permission even if it isn't posted. Just because it is a "logging road" doesn't mean that it is public. People who own the land and pay taxes on it don't appreciate other people using it.

If you don't know don't go.

And just because locals were on them doesn't always mean its ok.

X2 A lot of old logging roads are now private owned by one or more for access to private land and the logging roads are now driveways for private land. And just because locals were on the dosn't always mean it ok, what if they did there homework and ASKED permission to be there? Don't just follow a set of tracks and say hay, if they did I can? And I am tired of this BS that it HAS to be posted! I cant tell you how many signs I put up that people ride around, then they just pull them down and ride WTH! private is private and if you don't know don't go.

This right here is why we have so many problems. Can't fix stupid, no respect.

I also think it has to do with sled necks and all those guys but if you wanna be like them go to the mountains and do it where the only person your gonna hurt is your self and not someone's feelings towards the law abiding riders or piss them off about there property getting messed up
