A lot of bad habits for disaster discussed in this post, but is there any actual fact data available to us to really determine which is causing disaster versus irritation?

Other than what you and I and others personally observe everyday?
IMO, ...no.... the focus of "studies" (actual data) are solely based on drunk driving. It makes the headlines and we continue to hear about repeat and habitual drunk drivers killing ppl after 3 or more convictions.
If the system was working, then after 30 years of "MADD", why are the stats even worse today?
IMO, Mothers Against Distracted Driving (MADD) ...another worthy cause?....would surely be too self incriminating for any caring "mothers" with a cell phone to be in a position to take on AS a cause.

I can't find anything newer than 2015, but here is this.

https://www.thezebra.com/insurance-news/4671/drunk-driving-vs-distracted-driving-dangerous/

Statistics: Drunk Driving vs Distracted Driving Casualties
Drunk Driving
• 10,265 deaths in 2015
• 290,000 injuries in 2015
Distracted Driving
• 3,477 deaths in 2015
• 391,000 injuries in 2015

Interesting stats for sure...
Not sure how these 2 different reasons can be compared to each other when only one has a test to establish guilt.

IMO these stats are only the times it was proven. Actual distracted driving numbers are prob much higher. But couldnt most accidents be contributed to some sort of distraction?

The biggest differance between drunk and distracted is you can become undistracted at any time you choose during your drive. Drunks can't sober up, so their window for accidents is he whole drive. Whereas phone users for example text and put down phone. Distracted driving happens at a much higher rate for sure.

It's interesting since this thread started I've paid more attention to what phone users are doing while driving. Worse offender so far happened on 494 by airport in MN, driver was passing in left lane at approx. 70-75 driving with knee two thumbs on phone. Lol
