Read the MI DNR reports - No Sticker, No Reg ,Suspended License, Outstanding Arrest Warrants, DUI , DUI, Sound DBs. fish and hunt violations...... which part is up for debate ? Thats a lot of bad apples that everyone speaks of giving " the sport a bad name "

I wished people would quit lumping all aftermarket exhaust with loud cans. This year I put a GGB Trail Can on my 2017 Switchback Assault because the stock one is humongous & heavy. Just to adjust the chain tension I had to pull the stock can off because it was blocking everything over on the right hand side. Now with the new slimmed down GGB can I can actually get at things like chain tension & battery without pulling the exhaust.

X2 AMEN!!! I custom built my own for my sled as I could not get to the chain adjuster or oil filter for oil changes without removing the stock 20lb can. I love my 8lb can that is not a loud can at all. Just has a nice throaty sound and have had zero problems with the DNR and or Police when passing. This fight has been fought on here for years about cans, and many just assume if you have aftermarket you have a load annoying trail closing can on, but for many that is not the case.

Put a JPR Performance on this year. Noise is just slightly louder, but also deeper. Not that high pitched cracking, and comes in below Michigan's decibel level requirement. Saved about 15lbs off of the front end and is noticeable. It'd be interesting to get an official report.

Sound check in Seney this past weekend as well. More DNR headed into Grand Marais. Stopping random groups. Only 3 in our group and we had no cans or issues.

We had a somewhat humorous encounter with a DNR checkpoint in Little Lake, MI (Gwinn area) this weekend on trail 8, where we were stopped three times in three hours at the same checkpoint by the same officers. To make a long story short, we were running errands back and forth from camp, getting groceries and hauling propane in cargo sleds and going through the checkpoint multiple times. They kept stopping us because one of the guys in our group had a brand new sled with no stickers. He was completely legal with the appropriate temporary paperwork, but they didn't recognize or realize they had already pulled him over until he took his helmet off. As far as the noise issue, on the second stop, one of the officers immediately wanted to look under the hood of a 2001 AC ZL 600, which we use as a camp sled for miscellaneous chores and a backup. When asked if it was modified, the owner said "no, its just an old beat up POS", and the officer just shook his head and put the hood down. On a side note, it was clear that it was training day, as the two officers on the chase sleds looked like they were barely out of high school, while the senior officers manned the checkpoint and glassed for offenders in the distance. Overall, no complaints from our group, they were doing their job and easy enough to deal with.

Nobody can see if you have a can, but when they are excessively loud, it draws attention. If you have one & it's NOT EXCESSIVELY LOUD, then don't worry about it. 4 in the above mentioned blew stop signs, got pulled, each under the influence of drugs, jailed. Others, exhaust too loud plus, no trail permits, improper registration etc.......hmmmm. Not a fan of the loud azz cans & listening to them grab a handful of throttle every 60' just to hear the brrrrappppp on the trails is friggin ridiculous. That's not riding the sled, it's plain ole noise maken.... Residents have had enough & called on law enforcement, can't blame them one bit. You draw that kind of attention you deserve what you get.-Mezz

Those old Cats sounded sweet, I had a few ZR's and a 98 550 Cougar too; loved them all.

ZRT's were obnoxious looking with those gaudy graphics, and sounded the same. I had an AC, and my ears would ring laying in bed at night.

I had a '98 ZRT, and I still think to this day it was one of the best sounding sleds ever.

Oh yeah; they certainly were.
I had one (bought it used) and the weld where the pipes went into the can always broke, I had it welded twice and it kept vibrating apart. At least I never had a bad crank like my friends did.

Had a 2000 ZL600, was asked by many if I had modified the exhaust, no was the answer, stock... For a "stock" exhaust, I am certain it was near the high end of the allowable Db, but, it was "stock". BTW, to me, nothing sweeter sounding than a 2 stroke triple triple.-Mezz

the checkered flags very lame but then the comp at the time was pretty light in the loafers with the white with pink and baby blue stripes . I would LMFAO when a burly guy would stroll in with the matching suit .
I love the sound of a 3 hole 3 pipe with triple stingers winding out in the woods
