Thought we'd jump in the Time Machine and travel back to the day you took your test for your Drivers License. At the minimum we need make, model, and year of your vehicle. Anything else you can remember is welcomed such as mishaps and adventures. I'll go first.

The car I tested in was a 69 Dodge Polara. It was the folks car at the time and was a two door automatic with a 383 V8. Plenty of engine for a 16 year old kid. I grew up in the country driving tractors, combines, etc. so driving a car was pretty basic as long as you followed the safety stuff. I learned early on that if you can back up a farm wagon with a pivot hitch, you can pretty much drive anything out there.

That V8 got a good workout until Dad noticed how his tires were going bald after the first few weeks!

Talk about memories... 54 Dodge Coronet, black with the big Ram's head hood ornament. Believe it or not, it had a 241 Hemi with "Red Ram" stamped on the valve covers (smallest Hemi ever built). Paid $50 for it, overhauled the motor and three speed manual myself at the ripe age of 15. In 1963 you could order all the engine parts, including a crankshaft and bearings from the Sears Roebuck catalog. Ordered all the accessories from J.C. Whitney.

Still can't believe that many decades later, my dad sent it to the crusher without checking with me.

My mom's 1968 Dodge Coronet that she bought new. Took my test in it in 1981. Ended up buying the car from her a few years later.

Here's something to laugh at. I was fortunate to be a teenager in the 80's. My parents had the very special '84 Pontiac 6000 STE. Yep, all 2.8L 135 hp there! :) Burnouts? Yep, on wet slurry treated roads and the e-brake to hold all that American muscle back.

well for me it was a BIG Boat of a car, a 1976 Chrysler New Yorker, 2 door 440 V -8,, one of several 440 motored car's I owned over the yrs, all were fuel hungry Big aZZ vehicles
lots of fond memories with them as well, they sure don't make vehicles like them no more, sadly! IMO!

NOW< I'll add this too, since sort of same thing,
a bunch of yrs later I decided to add a MC lic to things,
So, Taking my drivers test for a motorcycle Lic
I was on a Kawasaki KLR 650 ( think it was a 1988 or 1989 model) was a street trail bike, I forget the exact yr, but just bought it was brand NEW, , just picked it up from dealer that morning,
But while taking test, the brake light bulb burnt out, passed everything but the safety check on bike, as at end of test when they checked for lights to work, ??
Cop giving test was a fellow biker as well, and a cool cop and told me, if I could run down the road to an auto shop and get a new bulb,(while he tested next few people), he would still pass me, if i come back with it working
so, that's what I did, ran and bought a bulb, installed it, and came back and got the MC Lic !

1994 Chevy Silverado it was my father's. Test was on my birthday and I was the only person who didn't cancel as it was still snowing like crazy. 12 inches and 20+ mph winds. The tester was not thrilled at all. "Why is it that farm kids have no common sense, and you had better have a 4×4." 20 minutes later I had a driver's license, and he decided I wasn't so bad. Never did burnouts with my Dad's truck. He would have pulled the keys and then I wouldn't have been able to use it to haul the animals around to shows. Pissed my mom off when I turned 18 and bought a truck. She wanted me to get a Chevy Metro. No way was that happening. Told her I wasn't driving around in a coffin!

I had to use my moms ride, 1994 GMC Yukon Blacked out GT. I loved the looks of that thing. My own truck was still not together after my own attempt at painting it lol

Borrowed the neighbor’s Renault alliance (82 I think)because my dad wasn’t confident that my car 78 Chevy Nova 6 cylinder 250 would pass safety inspection. So nothing I had would do a burnout.

My Grandmas 1994 Chyrsler LeBaron. Pretty nice car. It was 1995 and they would still give you a score not just a pass or fail. My dad bet me pizza that I couldn't beat his score of a 96. Welp I passed with a 100 out of 100! 5 years later I had my CDL and was driving truck for my dad. My first car is still in my stable. I don't know how I didn't wreck this thing because I wrecked everything else I drove until my mid 20's. IMG_20120412_180157-2.jpg This is what she used to look like.

I took my test in my 1973 Plymouth Duster 340. I bought it in pieces when I was 14 and fixed it up. It made its maiden voyage (at least that's what my parents think) ;) on my 16th birthday driving to the DMV. Fresh Vitamin C Orange paint, Six Pack, Cragar SS Wheels, lumpy exhaust note, etc, etc. The tester looked concerned, but it obviously passed inspection and I got my licence. Last thing he said before we got out of the car was "Nice car kid, don't die." Thanks for the vote of confidence mister. :concern:
