Drop a different engine in?

Rather than doing the top end on the ZL this summer, I'm thinking of dropping a new (used) engine in. Both are 2000's, would go from a 500 efi to a 600. It only has 1600 miles (mine has 6600) but it is a carb. I'd like to stick with the efi. How tough would it be, can I use the efi components off the 500 to convert the 600?

I believe just put a different chip in

Heard a lot about "chips". That the same as a ECU, or is it something like an actual little chip/sds card you'd have in a phone now days? If its not the ECU, I've never taken notice of one so I'm wondering what/where it is.

Your only going to gain 10 hp. I don't think its worth it. I'd just clutch it.

Thing is with 6600 on the 500 I planned to do the top end. With the new one I don't need to, and the engine is $500. I figure thats not a bad investment vs the top end if I don't have much else into it. Beside, if I clutch it and do the top end not sure but I might be close to the same ball park s the engine.

If you can trust the new motor I say go for it. $500s a good deal, can sell your old one for that too.

if he is selling the motor he prob has matching ecu.
I dont remember if 00 had the 3 diff ecu program to match 3 diff injectors or not.
if so same as now with /circle/square/triangle/
u would think u could get away with putting a circle ecu with a square injector motor but I blew a brand new crate 600 that way in less than 100mi.

I also think that 2000 was the cut off between A case and B case on the 600 the A is the same as your 500 and the B was upgraded with better crank/bearings/transfers .
the early build were the old A late build B.
I can tell u just a light cleaning of the transfers and cutting 9tho off the head and clutching to go with it I was embarrassing poo800,s of the same vintage

I got a 2000 zl 600 ecu a square I might be getting rid of thinking about going carb. Thinking about switching my 136 track and engine over to my wifes carbed zl 500 my other sled getting pretty beat tunnels cracked and all the rivets are starting to pop out. it's had a rough life. LOL
