1) Remove the 3 nuts/bolts that hold the speedo side bearing on,

2) Loosen the track (I usually remove the entire rear susp)

3) push the track away from hanging up on the drive wheels,

4) and shove the entire drive-shaft over towards the speedo side

5) until the drive-shaft clears the chain-case, then let it drop down on the chain case side first.

IF you get the speedo bearing kit from "ALL BALLS" $22.00 for both bearings to do one axle, it includes a different style speedo bearing that's held in place with allen head set screws instead of having it pressed on.

I haven't used this set-up yet, but it would allow for replacement while the driveshaft is still in the sled

dont you have to pull the c clip on the drive shaft Bering in the chain case?it prob comes out either way I just did one last week and took it out the chain case side.then pulled the spedo side no reason not to do all the bearings at the same time

It could be hanging up on the driver lugs on the inside of the track. This is why it is a good idea to take the rear suspension all the way out so you can push the track up against the inside of the tunnel/front heat exchanger to get the drivers away from the track lugs. If that makes sense.

Just put a track in a 01 edge and didn't have to remove any snap rings. Just remove spedo 3 bolts.loosen chain case. 3 bolts hold this to bulk head and remove gears and chain and shaft should slide right out.Just like everyone else said. Not sure about a snap ring?

I pulled snap ring so I could change both bearings then you can go up or down with the driver to get it out .rap it with a rubber mallet could be rusted to the bearing

watch out, on the back side of the bearing there is an o-ring that likes to "get lost" when trying to replace the bearings in the chaincase. how many miles were on this thing anyways?
