Electric Snowmobile

Same as with electric cars...the range needs to be same as a current snowmobile and charging time needs to be the same as filling with gas. I think someday soon they will get to this technology.

Instead of paying for “x” gallons of gas, we will be paying for “x” KWs of electric..

No more clutches / belts to worry about..

Ski Doo guys will be most excited because they will never have to worry about blowing a belt again! lol

Not sure how many of you guys have been following the Alta Redshift mx bike..I am real close to buying one. In the case of a mx bike the range and charge time are not as critical. The bike only needs to last a moto and then back to the pits for a charge in between races.

For me the Alta is attractive because I can build a mx track on my land without upsetting the neighbors with noise.

My only concern right now is that Harley Davidson just bought a large stake in Alta- with HDs crappy reputation I am concerned they will ruin the company and put them out of business quickly..

am I Just not seeing things right, but NO front shocks? on this thing I can see?
62 mile range on a charge< add in COLD temps and I bet that drops as time goes by
I guess if you ride in your yard , it can be a OK toy, but for now I don't see it as a real option for a trail sled!

Article claims sled can maintain this range to -30c. Battery technology is advancing very fast these days, so range will increase. I think that since they already have the weight in proportion to current sleds, and cost similar to current sleds. If this platform is accepted by consumers at all. The cost will decrease, range will increase. I'm sure it'll take 20 years for all manufacturers to get on board, but I think this is a heck of a first step.

Doo already has a proto type electric sled they are working with. I would guess other mfr's have as well. I believe the Doo was shown in one of the mags, not that long ago. Poo was out with a electric UTV 9 years ago. The Poo dealer we work with has sold many. Battery capacity, travel range, is the problem as of now. But the development of "new" high capacity, fast charge, small sized battery tech is going at hyper speed right now. The development process and the time period of this, will surprise us all imo. Solar panels/reflectors are on the same high speed development course in size, and efficiency. Electric vehicles of all kinds are on the way. Telsa has a semi tractor on the road already, and orders for many. UPS has electric vehicles in use now. Don't blink, and stay tuned in!!!

Batteries are key to all types of energy production...we can produce enormous amounts of energy but storing energy is costly and difficult. It's only a matter of time before engineers figure this out on a cheap and efficient basis.

old c ell phones did have better reception. nokia 5160 was the only phone that could get reception at my cabin. this new junk is horse dung as far as reception.

it will be some time before batteries are where they need to be and even longer before the cost is a reality for consumer toys
